About Goa JE
GSSC recruits Junior Engineers at pay level 5 for Goa government departments. Advertisement No. 2 of 2025, dated 18 July 2025, listed 132 JE (Civil) posts across Public Works, Water Resources, Panchayats, Rural Development, Agriculture and the Electricity Department; 88 JE (Electrical) posts, 87 of them in the Office of the Chief Electrical Engineer, Electricity Department; and 25 JE (Mechanical/Electrical) posts in Public Works.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: Up to 45 years, counted on Last date of application (8 August 2025 in Advertisement No. 2 of 2025).
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- PwD candidates who are SC or ST get 15 years; PwD candidates who are OBC get 13 years.
- Government servants get up to 5 years; ex-servicemen get relaxation under the rules in force.
- No one can be older than 56 after any relaxation.

What they ask
Half of CBT-II, the test that sets merit, is your engineering branch. The JE (Electrical) sample paper on the GSSC site has short numericals and concept questions on transformers, induction and synchronous motors, power factor and reactive power, relay plug setting, nodal analysis, Zener diodes, current transformers and energy saving. The rest of that paper covers English usage (idioms and indirect speech), arithmetic such as mensuration and pipes and cisterns, and figure-based reasoning like water images. There is no negative marking.
How to prepare
- Spend most of your time on your branch subjects. The 40-mark technical section is half of CBT-II and decides your rank more than anything else.
- Practise short electrical numericals (slip, power factor, CT ratio, relay PSM) of the kind in the GSSC sample paper; they reward quick formula recall.
- Keep up English grammar for both CBTs: 20 marks each time, with idioms and indirect speech in the sample paper.
- Do not skip Konkani. A score below 4 out of 10 in CBT-I means the rest of your paper is not evaluated.
