About Goa Police SI

GSSC recruits Police Sub Inspectors for the Office of the Director General of Police, Goa, at pay level 6. Advertisement No. 1 of 2025, dated 2 May 2025, listed 187 posts: 157 for men and 30 for women. Everyone selected must pass the basic training course at a police training college or academy.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: Up to 28 years, counted on Last date of application (23 May 2025 in Advertisement No. 1 of 2025).

Age relaxation

• OBC: 3 years
• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• Government servants get up to 5 years.
• Ex-servicemen get relaxation under the rules in force.

Qualification

A degree from a recognised university, or a three-year diploma in Security and Investigation Technology from a recognised board or institute. You also need knowledge of computers, a light vehicle driving licence and knowledge of Konkani. Marathi is desirable.

Other conditions

• Men: height at least 168 cm (167 cm for departmental candidates); chest 80 cm unexpanded and 85 cm expanded.
• Physical test for men: 100 m in 15 seconds, long jump 3.80 m, shot put (7.26 kg) 5.60 m and high jump 1.20 m (three chances each), 800 m in 2.50 minutes.
• Women: height at least 160 cm and weight at least 45 kg. Physical test: 100 m in 16.5 seconds, long jump 3.25 m, shot put (4 kg) 4.50 m and high jump 1.05 m (three chances each), 200 m in 36 seconds.
• Ex-servicemen aged 30 and above have separate, easier standards listed in the advertisement.
• You need a valid 15-year Goa residence certificate and Goa Employment Exchange registration.

Selection process

1. CBT-I (screening): 60 marks in 75 minutes; at least 4 of 10 in Konkani is compulsory
2. Physical Endurance Test for 15 times the number of posts in each category; qualifying only, no marks
3. CBT-II for 6 times the posts in each category from those who clear the PET: 60 marks in 75 minutes
4. NCC bonus added to CBT-II: 3 marks for a C certificate, 2 for B, 1 for A
5. Common merit list on CBT-II marks, then category-wise select and wait lists; minimum CBT pass marks are 45% (unreserved), 40% (OBC/PwD) and 35% (SC/ST)

What they ask

The PSI written tests use the standard GSSC layout: multiple choice, 60 marks each, 75 minutes, no negative marking. CBT-I is mostly English (30 marks), with 10 marks each of reasoning, arithmetic and Konkani. CBT-II, which decides merit, drops Konkani and puts 20 marks on basic knowledge of the Constitution of India. The physical test is tougher than the constable one, and both men and women have to clear a shot put.

How to prepare

• Get your light vehicle driving licence and degree certificate in hand before applying. Eligibility is checked as on the last date of application.
• Read the Constitution of India topic by topic (Preamble, fundamental rights, directive principles, the Union and state governments), since it is 20 of the 60 marks in CBT-II.
• Do not neglect Konkani. Scoring under 4 of 10 in CBT-I stops your evaluation even if the rest of your paper is strong.
• Practise the shot put along with running. Men need 5.60 m with a 7.26 kg shot and women 4.50 m with a 4 kg shot, and the PET has no marks to make up a failed event.
