About Andaman Police SI

Sub-Inspector (Executive) is a Group B (non-gazetted) post in the executive branch of Andaman and Nicobar Police, filled through the same April 2026 notice as the constable posts. There are 28 tentative vacancies for open candidates (4 UR, 19 OBC, 4 ST and 1 EWS) and 3 for departmental candidates. Constables, head constables and ASIs of A&N Police with five years' continuous service can apply against the departmental quota, where they skip the physical tests and are ranked on a separate list.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: Up to 30 years, counted on 17 May 2026 (the original closing date, which still applies for age after the last date was extended to 25 June 2026).

Age relaxation

• ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• The notice sets only an upper limit of 30 years for this post.
• Central government servants with three years' continuous service in the same or an allied line: up to 5 years (10 for ST).
• SSCT, DRM, ad hoc and contract workers of the A&N Administration get relaxation under the Administration's circulars named in the notice.
• Ex-servicemen may deduct their military service from their age, and the result may exceed the limit by up to 3 years.

Qualification

Bachelor's degree from a recognised university, and a valid LMV driving licence for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. Both must be held on 17 May 2026.

Other conditions

• Men: height at least 168 cm, chest 81 cm expanding to 85 cm. ST men: 160 cm, chest 77 cm expanding to 81 cm.
• Women: height at least 155 cm (148 cm for ST). No chest measurement for women.
• Endurance test: men run 1600 m in 7 minutes, long jump 12 feet and high jump 4 feet; women run 800 m in 5 minutes, long jump 8 feet and high jump 3 feet. Three chances for each jump.
• Eyesight must be 6/6 and 6/9 without glasses or corrective surgery.
• Departmental candidates can instead apply as open candidates with an NOC, but they then take every test and lose the departmental exemption.

Selection process

1. Physical Measurement and Endurance Test, qualifying only (departmental quota candidates are exempt)
2. Written exam of graduate level: a common paper of 160 questions in 2 hours 30 minutes, plus a separate Hindi paper of 40 questions in 40 minutes
3. NCC bonus added to written marks: 5% of the maximum for a C certificate, 3% for B and 2% for A
4. Document verification, medical examination and police verification; separate merit lists for open and departmental candidates

What they ask

The SI exam uses the same five subjects as the constable exam, set at graduate level and split into two papers. The common paper has 40 questions each on general knowledge, general aptitude, computer knowledge and English. A separate 40-question Hindi paper follows, with one minute a question. English covers error spotting, cloze passages, narration and comprehension, and every section cuts 0.25 marks for a wrong answer.

How to prepare

• Treat the 40-minute Hindi paper as its own test. At one question a minute it rewards quick grammar and vocabulary recall.
• Give computer knowledge the same study time as general knowledge, since both carry 40 marks in the common paper.
• Train for the PM&ET early. Men run 1600 m in 7 minutes and women 800 m in 5 minutes, and failing it stops you before the written exam.
• If you are a serving constable, head constable or ASI with five years' service, weigh the departmental route: no physical test, but only 3 departmental seats.
