About Arunachal Police Constable
Arunachal Pradesh Police constables are recruited by APSSB. In 2026 the Board ran a special drive for uniformed services (Advertisement No. 04/26) with 984 posts at Pay Level 3: civil police constables for men and women, IRBn constables, band and bugler constables, firemen and Special Tiger Guards for the Environment and Forest department. The written test decides the merit list, and the physical and medical tests only have to be cleared.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–22 years, counted on 10 April 2026.
Age relaxation
- ST: 5 years
- Fireman and Special Tiger Guard: 18 to 32 years.
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of continuous service can subtract that service from their age and are eligible if the result is no more than 3 years above the limit.
- A one-time age relaxation covered candidates who sat APSSB's constable written exam of 13 July 2025 (Advertisement 09/2020), for the civil police, band and bugler posts only.
Qualification
Class 10 pass from a recognised board. Band and Bugler constables must also be able to play the band or bugle.
Other conditions
- IRBn, Band, Bugler and Fireman posts are for men only. Civil police has separate posts for men and women, and Special Tiger Guard takes both.
- Height: 165 cm for general men and 157 cm for general women; 160 cm for APST men (152 cm in Tirap, Changlang and Longding) and 152 cm for APST women. Men need a 79 cm chest expanding to 84 cm.
- Constable PET for men: 100 m in 16 seconds, 1500 m in 8 minutes, high jump 107 cm and long jump 11 feet. For women: 100 m in 19 seconds, 800 m in 5 minutes, long jump 9 feet and high jump 90 cm. Jumps allow three attempts.
- Fireman PET is different: 100 m carrying a 10 kg load in 1 minute, 1500 m in 8 minutes 30 seconds, an 8-foot rope or pipe climb, plus the same jumps.
- Special Tiger Guard has its own height standards and a walk of 25 km in 4 hours for men and 14 km in 4 hours for women.
- Corrected distant vision of 6/6 in the better eye and 6/12 in the worse eye, with no colour blindness.
- The eligibility clause asks for Indian citizenship; 787 of the 984 posts were reserved for APST candidates.

What they ask
The written paper has 100 questions in four equal sections: general awareness, reasoning, arithmetic and English, each question worth 2 marks. General awareness includes history, polity, geography, science, sports and current events, and state-specific questions may be asked. You need 33 percent in aggregate to be shortlisted for the physical tests, and there is no negative marking. Since the physical and medical stages are qualifying, the written score alone decides your rank.
How to prepare
- Put most of your study hours into the written paper. The merit list is drawn only from written marks.
- Start running practice months ahead: men must cover 1500 m in 8 minutes and women 800 m in 5 minutes, and each jump allows only three attempts.
- Measure your height and chest against the table for your category before applying. APST limits are lower than general ones and vary by district.
- Answer every question, since wrong answers are not penalised, and aim well above the 33 percent needed to be called for the PET.
- Rank your posts carefully in the form. The merit list follows your preference order, and you cannot change it later.
