About APPSC JE

APPSC fills Junior Engineer posts for the state's works departments through one common exam. The 2025 advertisement had 413 posts at Pay Level 6 (₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400, Group B Non-Gazetted) across Public Works, Rural Works, Urban Development and Housing, Public Health Engineering and Water Supply, Water Resources, Hydro Power and Power. Around three-quarters of the posts were in civil engineering, with the rest in electrical, mechanical, computer/IT and electronics branches.

Age limit

General category: 18–35 years, counted on 10 October 2025.

Age relaxation

  • The upper limit is relaxable under Arunachal Pradesh government orders.
  • PwBD candidates and regular state government employees get concessions under government rules.

Qualification

A diploma of at least three years, or a bachelor's degree (BE/B.Tech), in the branch of the post: civil engineering (agricultural engineering is also accepted for the Rural Works and Water Resources posts), electrical, mechanical, computer engineering or IT, or electronics and telecommunication. Final-year students can apply but must produce the result by the interview date.

  • APPSC invites applications from Indian citizens; most posts are reserved for APST candidates, and general candidates upload a PRC or Aadhaar copy.
  • You rank departments in the form, and allotment follows that order.

What they ask

The technical paper carries 300 of the 450 written marks, so your branch knowledge decides most of the result. The civil syllabus stays practical: surveying, RCC, soil and foundations, water supply, drainage, estimating and hill roads. The general paper tests English at matriculation level, current affairs with a North-East and Arunachal focus, and aptitude that includes engineering mathematics and professional ethics. You need 33 percent across both papers and at least 20 percent in each, with one-sixth of the marks cut per wrong answer.

How to prepare

  • Give the technical paper most of your time. It carries 300 of the 450 written marks.
  • Civil aspirants should revise hill road design and hill drainage, which the syllabus lists separately and which suit the state's terrain.
  • Keep an Arunachal current affairs notebook for the general paper, since the syllabus names North-East India with special reference to the state.
  • Guess only when you can narrow the options. Each wrong answer costs one-sixth of the marks.
  • Revise estimating and costing with worked examples, as rate analysis and quantity calculations are named in the syllabus.
