About BSSC Graduate Level (CGL)
BSSC holds the Graduate Level Combined Competitive Exam to fill graduate-level posts in Bihar government departments. Advertisement 05/25 is the fourth round and includes posts in pay levels 5 to 7. Aspirants often call it BSSC CGL.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–37 years, counted on 1 August 2025.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Upper age limit: unreserved men 37, BC and EBC (men and women) 40, unreserved women 40, SC and ST (men and women) 42.
- Persons with disability get 10 more years.
- Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus defence service, provided actual age is not above 53 on the application date.
- Candidates who met the upper age limit on 1 August 2022 may also apply.
- Regular Bihar government employees get 5 years, within a total of five attempts.

General Studies
- Current affairs: science, national and international awards, Indian languages, books, scripts, capitals, currencies, sports, major events
- India and neighbouring countries: history, culture, geography, economy, freedom movement, agriculture and natural resources, constitution and polity, panchayati raj, community development, five-year plans, Bihar's role in the national movement
General Science and Mathematics (Matric level)
- Physics, chemistry, biology, geography
- Number system, whole numbers, decimals and fractions
- Percentage, ratio and proportion, average, interest, profit and loss
Mental Ability
- Verbal and non-verbal reasoning
- Analogy, similarity and difference, spatial visualisation, problem solving
- Visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts
- Arithmetic reasoning, number series, coding and decoding
What they ask
The prelims has 150 objective questions in 2 hours 15 minutes, with 4 marks for a right answer and 1 cut for a wrong one. It is an open-book paper: you may bring one printed school textbook each for general studies, maths and general science, but no guides or notes. Maths and science questions stay at Matric level. The prelims only shortlists about five times the vacancies for the mains, where Hindi must be cleared first.
How to prepare
- Pick your three textbooks early and practise finding facts in them quickly; the open-book rule helps only if you know where things are.
- Maths and science are at Matric level, so the BSEB or NCERT Class 9 and 10 books are the right base.
- Clear the qualifying mark: 40% for unreserved, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates.
- Solve mixed quizzes on the free Improvam app every day to keep the 4-mark, minus-1 scoring in check.
- Start Hindi grammar practice before the mains; a score under 30% there means your main paper is not checked.

Yes. The advertisement allows one printed textbook for each section (general studies, maths, general science), from NCERT, BSEB, ICSE or another board. Guides, photocopies and notes are not allowed.
