About BSSC Office Attendant

BSSC recruits Office Attendants and Attendants (Special) for many Bihar government departments through a Matric-level exam. Advertisement 06/25 opened with 3,727 posts, and corrigenda of September and November 2025 raised the total to 5,131, of which 1,654 fall under the 35% horizontal quota for women.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–37 years, counted on 1 August 2025.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • Upper age limit: unreserved men 37, BC and EBC (men and women) 40, unreserved women 40, SC and ST (men and women) 42.
  • Persons with disability get 10 more years.
  • Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus defence service, provided actual age is not above 53.
  • Regular Bihar government employees get 5 years, within a total of five attempts.

Qualification

Class 10 (Matric) or equivalent from a recognised board, passed by the last date of the online application.

Other conditions

  • Reservation goes only to permanent residents of Bihar; applicants from other states compete as unreserved.
  • Fee: Rs 540 for unreserved, BC and EBC men and for all applicants from outside Bihar; Rs 135 for SC/ST residents of Bihar, PwD candidates and women who are residents of Bihar.

General Arithmetic

  • LCM and HCF, real, rational, irrational and whole numbers
  • Squares, cubes, square and cube roots
  • Percentage, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest
  • Time and distance, proportion and inverse proportion

General Knowledge

  • Resources: forest, water, agriculture, minerals and energy; industries, national economy, map study
  • Federalism, centre-state relations, languages of India, democracy and diversity, political parties
  • Money and credit, globalisation, trade and livelihood
  • History, culture, geography and freedom movement of India; panchayati raj; Bihar's part in the national movement
  • Class 10 science: light, human eye, electricity, magnetic effects, sources of energy, chemical reactions, acids and bases, metals, carbon compounds, life processes, heredity, environment
  • Current events

General Hindi

  • Noun, pronoun, gender, adjective, synonyms, opposites

What they ask

The paper has 100 objective questions in two hours, marked plus 4 and minus 1. Arithmetic and general knowledge questions appear in both Hindi and English, while the Hindi section is printed only in Devanagari. Many GK questions follow the Class 10 social science and science textbooks. The Hindi section also includes questions from the prose and poetry chapters of the Class 10 Hindi book.

How to prepare

  • Use the Class 10 BSEB science, social science and Hindi books as your main source; the syllabus is built around them.
  • Practise Hindi grammar topics like sandhi, samas and muhavare daily, since that section is in Hindi only.
  • Clear the minimum score: 40% for unreserved, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates.
  • Avoid blind guesses: with minus 1 against plus 4, three wrong answers wipe out most of one right answer.
