About BSSC Inter Level

BSSC fills Class 12 level posts, mostly Level 2 clerical jobs, across Bihar government departments through the Inter Level Combined Competitive Exam. The revised Advertisement 02/23(A) merged fresh requisitions from 65 departments into the second inter level exam, taking the total to 23,175 vacancies, and corrigenda up to 13 February 2026 raised it to 26,426. Candidates who had already applied under 02/23 did not need to apply again.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–37 years, counted on 1 August 2025.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • Upper age limit: unreserved men 37, BC and EBC (men and women) 40, unreserved women 40, SC and ST (men and women) 42.
  • Persons with disability get 10 more years.
  • Candidates who met the upper age limit on 1 August 2015 may also apply.
  • Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus defence service, provided actual age is not above 53.
  • Regular Bihar government employees get 5 years, within a total of five attempts.
  • Contract workers get age relaxation and a weightage of 5 marks per year of service, up to 25 marks, but only for the same post they held on contract.

Qualification

Intermediate (Class 12) or equivalent. Many posts also need computer operation and Hindi or English typing skills, as listed post-wise in the advertisement.

Other conditions

  • The 35% horizontal reservation for women applies only to women who are permanent residents of Bihar.
  • Candidates from outside Bihar cannot claim reservation.
  • Exam fee is Rs 100.

General Studies

  • Current affairs: science, awards, Indian languages, books, scripts, capitals, currencies, sports, major events
  • India and neighbouring countries: history, culture, geography, economy, freedom movement, agriculture, constitution and polity, panchayati raj, five-year plans, Bihar's role in the national movement

General Science and Mathematics (Matric level)

  • Physics, chemistry, biology, geography
  • Number system, decimals and fractions, percentage, ratio and proportion, average, interest, profit and loss

Mental Ability

  • Analogy, similarity and difference, spatial visualisation
  • Problem solving, analysis, visual memory, observation
  • Arithmetic reasoning, number series, coding and decoding

What they ask

The prelims is one objective paper of 150 questions in 2 hours 15 minutes, marked plus 4 and minus 1. You may bring one printed school textbook for each of the three sections. General science and maths questions stay at Matric level, and mental ability covers both verbal and non-verbal reasoning. About five times the vacancies in each category move to the mains.

How to prepare

  • Work from BSEB or NCERT Class 9 and 10 books for science and maths, and carry the same books you practised with.
  • Reach the minimum score: 40% for unreserved, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates.
  • If your target post needs typing or computer skills, start that practice now rather than after the result.
  • Attempt Bihar-related general studies questions carefully; the syllabus names Bihar's role in the national movement.
