About BPSC TRE 4.0
BPSC recruits school teachers for the Education Department of Bihar through the Teacher Recruitment Exam. TRE 4.0 is the fourth round and covers government schools from Class 1 to Class 12, with district-wise and subject-wise vacancies on the BPSC website. Advertisement 15/2026 replaced the earlier Advertisement 14/2026, which was cancelled.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–37 years, counted on 1 August 2026 for minimum age; 1 August 2024 for maximum age.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Minimum age is 18 for Classes 1 to 8 and 21 for Classes 9 to 12, counted on 1 August 2026.
- Upper age limit, counted on 1 August 2024: unreserved men 37, BC and EBC (men and women) 40, unreserved women 40, SC, ST and transgender candidates 42.
- Persons with disability get 10 more years.
- Ex-servicemen get 3 years plus defence service, provided actual age is not above 57.
- Regular Bihar government employees get 5 years; teachers working under panchayati raj and urban local bodies get relaxed upper age limits.
Qualification
The NCTE qualification for the class group plus the matching eligibility test. Classes 1 to 5: Class 12 (generally 50%) with a two-year D.El.Ed, and CTET or BTET Paper I. Classes 6 to 8: a degree with D.El.Ed or B.Ed, and CTET or BTET Paper II. Classes 9 to 10: a degree with B.Ed in the subject group, and Bihar STET Paper I. Classes 11 to 12: a postgraduate degree in the subject with B.Ed, and Bihar STET Paper II.
Other conditions
- Any Indian citizen can apply. Reservation, including horizontal reservation for women (50% of posts for Classes 1 to 8 and 35% for Classes 9 to 12 in the vacancy tables), is given only to permanent residents of Bihar.
- 40% of all posts go to candidates who passed Matric or Intermediate from an institution in Bihar; seats left unfilled go back to the general pool.
- Candidates from outside Bihar are treated as general category and need at least 60% in the teacher eligibility test.
- Candidates appearing in STET 2026 may apply, but they get an admit card only after passing STET.
- Guest teachers who hold the required qualification get 5 marks for each year of service, up to 25, added after they clear the qualifying marks.
- Under the 2024 amended teacher rules a candidate can take this exam at most five times.

What they ask
Every class group writes one objective paper of 150 questions in two and a half hours. The language part tests working knowledge of English and one of Hindi, Urdu or Bangla, and it only has to be passed. For Classes 1 to 5, the rest of the paper is general studies at the level of the school syllabus. From Class 6 upwards, 80 questions come from the subject you applied for. Each question has five options, and leaving all of them blank costs a third of a mark.
How to prepare
- Read the SCERT and NCERT books for the classes you will teach. The advertisement names them as the level for both general studies and subject questions.
- Secure the language part early. Part I is qualifying, and you need at least 30% in it.
- For Classes 6 to 12, spend most of your time on Part III. It has 80 of the 150 questions and decides your rank.
- If you apply for more than one class group, fill your preference order carefully; the result is declared for your highest preference where you qualify.
- Clear the minimum score first: 40% for unreserved, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates.
