About KVS PRT

KVS runs 1,288 Kendriya Vidyalayas, including three abroad, and hires Primary Teachers on Pay Level 6. The 2025 drive was a joint KVS and NVS notification (No. 01/2025, 13 November 2025) conducted by CBSE. After Corrigendum 3 of 10 December 2025 it lists 3,630 PRT-level vacancies: 2,933 PRT, 203 PRT (Music) and 494 Special Educator (PRT). Selection is through two written tiers and an interview, and you can be posted to any KV in India.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–30 years, counted on 4 December 2025 (closing date printed in Notification 01/2025).

Age relaxation

  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • Women of all categories: 10 years for PRT, TGT, PGT and Librarian posts. This does not apply to women with a disability, who get the PwBD relaxation instead.
  • PwBD candidates get 13 years if OBC-NCL and 15 years if SC or ST.
  • Regular KVS employees, and candidates with 3 years of continuous Central Government service in the same or an allied cadre: 5 years (General), 8 (OBC) and 10 (SC/ST).
  • Ex-servicemen get relaxation after deducting their military service, as set out in the notification.
  • Only one relaxation applies: the highest one you qualify for.

Other conditions

  • Fee: Rs 1,500 exam fee plus Rs 500 processing fee. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates pay only the Rs 500 processing fee.
  • A public notice dated 4 December 2025 extended the last date to apply to 11 December 2025.
  • Your CTET certificate had to be issued on or before the closing date of the application.

Selection process

  1. Tier-1: qualifying screening test, 100 MCQs for 300 marks in 2 hours (OMR); shortlisting for Tier-2 at 1:10 of vacancies
  2. Tier-2: subject knowledge test of 60 objective and 10 descriptive questions for 100 marks in 2 hours 30 minutes
  3. Interview of 100 marks for candidates shortlisted at 1:3 from Tier-2
  4. Final merit: 85% weight to Tier-2 marks and 15% to the interview

What they ask

Tier-1 is a screening round of 100 questions worth 3 marks each, with 1 mark cut for every wrong answer. For PRT the questions are set at senior secondary level and cover reasoning, numeric ability, computer basics and general knowledge, followed by 20 language questions. The last 10 of these come only in the Indian language you chose in the form. Tier-2 tests your subject through 60 one-mark MCQs and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks, and it carries 85% of your final merit.

How to prepare

  • In Tier-1, answer a question when you can rule out at least two options. A wrong answer costs 1 of the 3 marks a right one earns.
  • Plan for Tier-2 from the start. Tier-1 only shortlists at 1:10 of vacancies, while Tier-2 decides 85% of your final rank.
  • Practise writing short descriptive answers against the clock, because 10 questions carry 40 of the 100 Tier-2 marks.
  • Choose the Part VI language you read most easily; those 10 questions are printed only in that language.
