About KVS PGT
Post Graduate Teachers in Kendriya Vidyalayas are on Pay Level 8. Notification 01/2025, conducted by CBSE for KVS and NVS, was revised by Corrigendum 3 on 10 December 2025 to 1,606 KVS PGT vacancies in 12 subjects. Physics (239), Chemistry (227) and English (188) have the most posts. Selection has two written tiers followed by an interview, and the posting can be anywhere in India.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–40 years, counted on 4 December 2025 (closing date printed in Notification 01/2025).
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Women of all categories: 10 years for PGT posts. Women with a disability get the PwBD relaxation instead.
- PwBD candidates get 13 years if OBC-NCL and 15 years if SC or ST.
- Regular KVS employees, and candidates with 3 years of continuous Central Government service in the same or an allied cadre: 5 years (General), 8 (OBC) and 10 (SC/ST).
- Ex-servicemen get relaxation after deducting their military service, as set out in the notification.
- Only one relaxation applies: the highest one you qualify for.

Other conditions
- Fee: Rs 1,500 exam fee plus Rs 500 processing fee. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates pay only the Rs 500 processing fee.
- A public notice dated 4 December 2025 extended the last date to apply to 11 December 2025.

What they ask
Tier-1 is the same six-part screening paper that TGT and PRT candidates take, but for PGT the questions are pitched at postgraduation level. There are 100 questions worth 3 marks each, and a wrong answer costs 1 mark. Tier-2 is a two-and-a-half-hour paper on your subject with 60 MCQs and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks. Tier-2 carries 85% of the final merit and the interview the other 15%.
How to prepare
- Revise your master's syllabus with the school curriculum in mind, since Tier-2 is a subject paper for a teaching post.
- Write practice descriptive answers in 2.5-hour mock papers; 10 questions are worth 40 marks.
- Guess in Tier-1 only after ruling out two options, because each wrong answer costs 1 mark.
- If you apply for PGT Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Economics, History, Geography or Biology, check that you studied the subject at graduation too; the notification makes it a condition.
