You also need CTET Paper II and the ability to teach in English and Hindi. Each subject needs particular graduation subjects: TGT Maths, for example, needs maths for three years plus physics and one of chemistry, electronics, computer science or statistics for a year, and B.Sc (Hons) Physics or Chemistry holders are not eligible. TGT Hindi, English and Sanskrit follow a similar pattern, while Art, Work Experience, Physical Education and Special Educator have their own rules.

About KVS TGT

KVS recruits Trained Graduate Teachers on Pay Level 7 for Kendriya Vidyalayas across India. Notification 01/2025, issued jointly with NVS and conducted by CBSE, was revised by Corrigendum 3 on 10 December 2025 to 3,069 KVS TGT vacancies in ten subjects. The largest groups are TGT Sanskrit (558), Special Educator (493) and TGT Mathematics (451). Librarian, with 166 posts, is listed separately. Selection is by Tier-1, Tier-2 and an interview.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–35 years, counted on 4 December 2025 (closing date printed in Notification 01/2025).

Age relaxation

  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • Women of all categories: 10 years for TGT posts. Women with a disability get the PwBD relaxation instead.
  • PwBD candidates get 13 years if OBC-NCL and 15 years if SC or ST.
  • Regular KVS employees, and candidates with 3 years of continuous Central Government service in the same or an allied cadre: 5 years (General), 8 (OBC) and 10 (SC/ST).
  • Ex-servicemen get relaxation after deducting their military service, as set out in the notification.
  • Only one relaxation applies: the highest one you qualify for.

Other conditions

  • Fee: Rs 1,500 exam fee plus Rs 500 processing fee. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates pay only the Rs 500 processing fee.
  • A public notice dated 4 December 2025 extended the last date to 11 December 2025 and let applicants apply for the same TGT subject in both KVS and NVS where qualifications had been aligned.
  • If you apply for the same post in KVS and NVS, you pay the fee once.

What they ask

Tier-1 has 100 questions worth 3 marks each, set at graduation level for TGT, and 1 mark is cut for each wrong answer. Eighty questions cover reasoning, numeric ability, computer literacy and general knowledge, and 20 test English and one other Indian language. Tier-1 is only a screening round. Tier-2 is a paper on your own subject with 60 MCQs and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks, and those marks make up 85% of the final merit.

How to prepare

  • Check your graduation subjects against the table for your TGT subject before you prepare. The notification rejects mismatched combinations, such as B.Sc (Hons) Physics for TGT Maths.
  • In Tier-1, skip questions you cannot narrow down. Each wrong answer takes away 1 mark.
  • Put most of your hours into Tier-2 subject content, since it carries 85% of the final rank.
  • Practise 40 marks' worth of descriptive answers under time limits, not only MCQs.
