About NVS TGT PGT
NVS runs 653 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas: co-educational, fully residential schools up to senior secondary level, mostly in rural areas and in every state except Tamil Nadu. Teachers live on campus and take on house master duties, supervised study and student welfare along with teaching. Notification 01/2025, issued with KVS and conducted by CBSE, listed 1,513 PGT, 18 PGT (Modern Indian Language), 2,978 TGT and 443 TGT (Third Language) vacancies in NVS. Those selected for TGT (Regional Language) are first posted outside their own linguistic state.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: At least 18 years, counted on 4 December 2025 (closing date printed in Notification 01/2025).
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Upper age limit before relaxation: 35 years for TGT and 40 years for PGT.
- Women of all categories: 10 years for PGT and TGT posts. Women with a disability get the PwBD relaxation instead.
- PwBD candidates get 13 years if OBC-NCL and 15 years if SC or ST.
- Regular NVS employees: 5 years for posts in NVS.
- Ex-servicemen with at least six months of continuous service may deduct that service from their age; they qualify if the result is no more than 3 years over the limit.
- TGT Computer Science: relaxation equal to the time spent as FCSA on contract in JNVs, if one stretch was over six months.
- Only one relaxation applies: the highest one you qualify for.

Other conditions
- Fee: Rs 1,500 exam fee plus Rs 500 processing fee. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates pay only the Rs 500 processing fee.
- JNVs admit at least one-third girls, so NVS tries to post male and female teachers in proportion, but there is no separate reservation for women teachers.
- PGT (Modern Indian Language) and TGT (Third Language) Tier-2 papers are set in the language concerned.

What they ask
NVS teachers sat the same combined Tier-1 as KVS: 100 questions worth 3 marks each, with 1 mark cut per wrong answer, at graduation level for TGT and postgraduation level for PGT. A candidate who applied for, say, PGT Hindi in both organisations was placed on separate merit lists from one Tier-1 score. Tier-2 is a separate subject paper for each post, with 60 MCQs and 10 descriptive questions worth 40 marks. Tier-2 carries 85% of the final merit and the interview 15%.
How to prepare
- Read the NVS column for your subject together with Corrigendum 2. The notification lists different rules for some posts in the two organisations, and the corrigendum aligned only some of them.
- Prepare for Tier-2 early. Tier-1 only shortlists at 1:10 of vacancies, and Tier-2 decides 85% of the result.
- If you apply for TGT (Third Language) or PGT (Modern Indian Language), practise writing answers in that language, because the Tier-2 paper is set in it.
- In Tier-1, leave a question blank unless you can cut the options down to two; a wrong answer costs 1 mark.

NVS TGT PGT FAQs
Up to 35 years for TGT and 40 for PGT on the closing date, printed as 4 December 2025, with a minimum of 18. Women get 10 extra years, SC and ST 5, OBC-NCL 3 and PwBD 10.
