About Andaman CHSL

The Recruitment and Examination Cell of the A&N Administration Secretariat fills Group B (non-gazetted) and Group C posts that need Class 12 through one common Tablet Based Test (TBT). Advertisement No. 02/HSL/2026 listed 716 tentative vacancies (334 UR, 42 ST, 280 OBC, 60 EWS) across departments; the largest block is 426 Lower Grade Clerk posts in the Secretariat. You apply once and list the posts you want in order of preference, and shortlisting uses both your TBT merit and that order.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–33 years, counted on Closing date for online applications (5 July 2026 in the notice; the last date was later extended to 30 July 2026).

Age relaxation

• ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• PwBD: 10 years
• Women: 18 to 38 years for Group C posts.
• Group B (non-gazetted) posts: 18 to 30 years for both men and women.
• PwBD candidates: 10 years (13 for OBC, 15 for ST).
• Central government civilian employees with 3 years' regular service: up to 40 years for Group C posts (45 for ST).
• DRM and contract staff, including SSCT: up to 40 years (45 for ST) under the Administration's circulars.
• Ex-servicemen may deduct military service from their age for Group C posts, and the result may exceed the limit by up to 3 years.

Qualification

Class 12 pass from a recognised board for almost every post, with extra conditions for some. Lower Grade Clerk and Lower Division Clerk need typing at 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi on a computer. Forester needs Class 12 in Science. Patwari needs Class 12, and after training must pass the departmental Patwari exam within three chances. Annexure-I of the notice gives the exact rule for each post.

Other conditions

• Reserved ST, OBC and EWS vacancies are filled only from candidates domiciled in the A&N Islands; ST and OBC applicants from elsewhere are considered for unreserved seats.
• Gram Sevika is open only to women aged 18 to 38.
• Forester needs a height of 163 cm for men and 150 cm for women (152 cm and 145 cm for ST), and a walk of 25 km for men or 14 km for women within 4 hours.
• Fee: Rs 100. Women, ST and PwBD candidates are exempt.

Selection process

1. Tablet Based Test (Tier I) at centres in South Andaman, North and Middle Andaman and Nicobar districts: 200 questions for 200 marks in 120 minutes
2. Physical, skill or trade test for posts whose rules require it, such as typing for clerks and the walking test for Forester; qualifying only
3. Online document verification of shortlisted candidates
4. Category-wise final selection on TBT marks and post preference; ties go to the older candidate

What they ask

The TBT has four sections of 50 one-mark questions and gives you 120 minutes, which works out to about 36 seconds a question. English tests grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. General Intelligence mixes verbal and non-verbal reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude runs from arithmetic to basic geometry, trigonometry and data charts. General Awareness covers current events and India and its neighbours. Sections other than English are set in both English and Hindi, a wrong answer costs 0.25 marks, and cut-offs can differ from post to post.

How to prepare

• Quantitative Aptitude goes beyond arithmetic: the notice lists algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and data charts, so revise your Class 10 maths chapters.
• Rank your post preferences with care. Shortlisting uses TBT merit and your preference order, and the notice does not allow the order to be changed after you submit.
• If you want a clerk post, start computer typing practice now. LGC and LDC need 35 wpm in English or 30 wpm in Hindi.
• Attempt only questions you can answer with some confidence. With 200 questions and 0.25 marks lost per wrong answer, careless guessing adds up.

How to apply

1. Register through the Candidate Corner on erecruitment.andamannicobar.gov.in.
2. Fill in personal details, post preferences, education, experience and payment; documents are checked later at online verification.
3. Pay the Rs 100 fee online unless you are a woman, ST or PwBD candidate.
4. Upload your photo and signature, then download the TBT e-admit card from the portal when it is released.
