About Andaman ANM

The Andaman and Nicobar Health Department recruits Auxiliary Nurse Midwives through its own computer-based test, run by the Recruitment Cell of the Directorate of Health Services with help from a recruitment agency. The vacancy notice dated 13 April 2026 offered 51 posts (26 UR, 5 EWS and 20 OBC), with 3 for persons with benchmark disabilities and 2 for meritorious sportspersons counted within them. Only women can apply, and the post is in Pay Level 4 (Rs 25,500 to 81,100).

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–38 years, counted on 6 May 2026 (closing date for online applications).

Age relaxation

• OBC: 3 years
• PwBD: 10 years
• ST candidates get no extra years; the limit stays at 38.
• PwBD candidates: 10 years for UR and ST, 13 years for OBC.
• Central government civilian employees with at least 3 years' regular service, and DRM or contract staff of the Administration: up to 40 years.

Qualification

Class 12 (Senior Secondary) pass from a recognised board, and a completed ANM certificate course with a valid ANM training certificate from a recognised institute.

Other conditions

• Only local ST candidates under the A&N Islands Scheduled Tribes order of 1959, and local OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates on the Administration's list, can claim reserved seats. Others are considered as unreserved.
• OBC non-creamy layer certificates must be issued between 7 May 2024 and 6 May 2026.
• If marks are tied, candidates who worked at least 100 days on short-term Covid duty contracts between March 2021 and December 2022 are placed higher, then older candidates.

Selection process

1. Computer-based test in English at Sri Vijaya Puram, with 0.25 negative marking
2. Category-wise shortlisting on CBT merit; the cut-off is set by the Health Department
3. Document verification in person
4. Final selection on CBT marks, subject to character verification and medical examination

Andaman ANM syllabus

What they ask

Four-fifths of the ANM test comes from the ANM course itself, so it rewards what you learnt in training more than general knowledge. The syllabus lists community and primary health nursing, infection and immunisation, communicable diseases, first aid, child health, midwifery and care before, during and after delivery. The remaining fifth is split between general awareness and Class 10 level science. The whole test is in English, and each wrong answer costs 0.25 marks.

How to prepare

• Revise your ANM course books first. Professional and technical questions carry 80% of the marks.
• Midwifery and antenatal, intranatal, postnatal and neonatal care appear as separate items in the syllabus, so give them extra revision time.
• The test is in English only. If you trained in Hindi or another language, practise the medical terms in English.
• For general science, go back to CBSE Class 10 physics, chemistry and biology, the level the notice names.

How to apply

1. Apply online at erecruitment.andamannicobar.gov.in.
2. Complete all five sections: personal details, education, post, payment and document upload.
3. Upload proof of age, qualifications, category and any age relaxation (100 KB to 500 KB each), with your photo and signature.
4. Download the admit card online; it is not sent by post.
