About HP Assistant Staff Nurse

HPRCA recruits Assistant Staff Nurses for the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Himachal Pradesh. Advertisement No. 12/2026 (Post Code 26044) first listed 312 posts. An HPRCA addendum dated 25 August 2026 added 468 more on a fresh requisition, so the post code now has 780 posts, open only to women who are bonafide Himachalis. The engagement is for five years on a fixed monthly honorarium of Rs. 25,000 under a 2025 state policy, and it does not give a right to regular staff nurse posts.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 21–45 years, counted on 1 January 2026.

Age relaxation

• OBC: 5 years
• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• PwBD: 5 years
• Ex-servicemen: 5 years
• Up to 5 years for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates domiciled in Himachal Pradesh, H.P. government employees and ex-servicemen of H.P.

Qualification

B.Sc. Nursing with 50% marks or GNM (A grade nursing diploma) with 50% marks from a recognised university or institution, and registration with the H.P. Nurses Registration Council, Shimla.

Other conditions

• Only female candidates who are bonafide Himachalis can apply.
• Minimum qualifying marks in the CBT: 45% for General and 40% for SC, ST, OBC and WFF candidates.

HP Assistant Staff Nurse syllabus

What they ask

The screening test has 120 multiple-choice questions of 1 mark each in one and a half hours. It covers nursing subjects at the level of your qualification, general knowledge with a Himachal focus, current affairs, and Matric-level science, reasoning, social science, English and Hindi. There is no skill test, so the CBT and document verification decide selection.

How to prepare

• Revise the core subjects of your GNM or B.Sc. Nursing course first. The advertisement puts subjects up to the level of your qualification at the top of the syllabus.
• Keep your HPNRC registration and bonafide Himachali certificate ready and valid before document verification.
• Read Himachal GK and current affairs daily for 20 minutes; they are named in the syllabus.
• Use the topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for a short daily round of general knowledge and reasoning.
