About HP Police Constable
Constables in the Himachal Pradesh Police are now recruited through HPPSC, which runs the written test while the Police Department holds the physical tests, document checks and medical. The 2026 cycle has two advertisements: No. 57/7-2026 for 491 male posts and No. 58/7-2026 for 243 female posts, a total of 734. Posts are regular, in Pay Band level 3.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–25 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 2 years
- SC: 2 years
- ST: 2 years
- SC, ST, OBC and Gorkha candidates (and SC/ST/OBC wards of ex-servicemen): 18 to 27 years
- Home Guards: 20 to 28 years
- A one-time relaxation of one year in the upper age limit was granted to all categories for the 2026 advertisements by an HPPSC addendum dated 3 August 2026
Qualification
10+2 (Class 12) pass.
Other conditions
- You must have passed matriculation and 10+2 from a school or board in Himachal Pradesh; this condition does not apply to bonafide Himachalis.
- Minimum height: men 5 ft 6 in (5 ft 4 in for SC, ST and Gorkhas); women 5 ft 2 in (5 ft 0 in for SC, ST and Gorkhas). Men also need a chest of 31 x 32 in (29 x 30 in for SC, ST and Gorkhas).
- Persons with disabilities are not eligible.
- Male and female posts have separate advertisements and separate applications.

What they ask
The written test has 90 one-mark questions in 2 hours, set in English and Hindi. English, Hindi, Mathematics and General Awareness carry 20 marks each and Reasoning carries 10. The language and maths questions are at Matric level. Every wrong answer and every unmarked question costs 0.25 marks, so the OMR sheet gives an option E for questions you want to skip. You only sit the written test after clearing the physical tests.
How to prepare
- Never leave a bubble empty. Mark option E for any question you skip, because a blank answer is penalised like a wrong one.
- Train for the running events early. Men must finish 1500 m in 5 min 30 s and women 800 m in 3 min 45 s, and failing one event ends your attempt.
- Get your height measured honestly before the PST. Every inch above the minimum band adds marks, up to 6 marks at 6 ft for men.
- Prepare Himachal geography and culture along with the last two years of current affairs; both are named in the General Awareness syllabus.
- Use the topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for a short daily round of Hindi grammar, maths and reasoning.

- Apply against Advertisement No. 57/7-2026 (male) or 58/7-2026 (female)
- Choose one district for the physical and written tests; it cannot be changed later
- Upload your certificates, photograph and signature and pay the fee online
