About HP Allied Services
The Allied Services exam is HPPSC's combined test for Group-C posts in several departments. The latest advertisement found on the HPPSC site, No. 45/12-2023, covered 15 Election Kanungo posts and 9 Extension Officer (Industries) posts, all on contract basis. The post list changes with each advertisement.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–45 years, counted on 1 January 2023.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 5 years
- 5 years for bonafide SC, ST, OBC, WFF and PwD candidates of Himachal Pradesh, only where a post is reserved for that category
- H.P. government employees and ex-servicemen of H.P.: as per government instructions

Other conditions
- For these Class-III posts you must have passed matriculation and 10+2 from a school in Himachal Pradesh; this does not apply to bonafide Himachalis.
- Reservation is only for bonafide residents of Himachal Pradesh.

- History, geography and socio-economic development of Himachal Pradesh (60 marks)

- Modern Indian history from 1857, Indian culture, polity, economy and geography, disaster management, environment, gender issues and the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi (80 marks)

What they ask
The screening paper has 200 one-mark General Knowledge questions in 3 hours, with 0.25 marks cut for each wrong answer. Himachal Pradesh alone carries 60 marks, the same as current events and everyday science, and national history, polity, economy and geography carry 80. Candidates up to 20 times the number of posts go to the main exam. There you write three 3-hour papers and need 35% in each and 40% in aggregate.
How to prepare
- Treat Himachal Pradesh as a full subject. It is 60 of the 200 prelim marks and comes back in the main General Knowledge paper.
- Practise Hindi translation and English precis by hand. The main exam papers are written, not objective, and each needs at least 35%.
- Keep a short note on Gandhi's teachings; the syllabus names them in both stages.
- Read the HPPSC previous papers for Allied Services before you start mock tests, so you know how deep the GK questions go.
