About AP Jail Warder and Fireman
The SLPRB notification of 16 September 2026 also covers 158 Firemen in the State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department, 150 Warders (Men) and 21 Warders (Women) in the Prisons and Correctional Services Department. Firemen and male warder posts are for men only, and the women's warder posts for women only. The age limit is wider than for constables, at 18 to 32 years.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–32 years, counted on 1 July 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- EWS: 5 years
- Up to 5 years for BC (non-creamy layer), SC, ST and EWS candidates.
- AP State Government employees: length of regular service, up to 5 years.
- Ex-servicemen and whole-time NCC instructors: 3 years plus the length of service.
- Widows, divorced women and judicially separated women who have not remarried: up to 42 years for SC/ST, up to 37 years for others.
Qualification
Pass in Intermediate or equivalent, as on 1 July 2026. For Firemen, SC and ST candidates who passed SSC and appeared for both years of Intermediate are also eligible.
Other conditions
- Firemen (Post Code 42) and Warder (Men) (Post Code 53) are for men; Warder (Women) (Post Code 54) is for women.
- Warder vacancies are allotted by contiguous district cadres (CDC-I to CDC-VI).
- Men: height at least 167.6 cm, chest at least 86.3 cm with 5 cm expansion. Women warders: height at least 152.5 cm, weight at least 40 kg.
- 95% of posts go to local candidates after the first 5% filled on open merit.

What they ask
Firemen and warders write the same Intermediate-standard papers as SLPRB constables: 200 objective questions in three hours on English, arithmetic, reasoning, general science, history, geography, polity, economy and current events. The preliminary test is only a qualifying screen. After the physical tests, a 200-mark final written exam decides the merit list. Questions come in English, Telugu and Urdu versions.
How to prepare
- Treat the preliminary test as a screen and aim for a safe margin over 40% (OC), 35% (BC) or 30% (SC/ST); only the final written score decides your rank.
- Prepare English, SSC arithmetic, reasoning and general studies from Annexure II of the notification, and practise full 200-question papers in three hours.
- Train for the PET well before the call letter arrives; it is qualifying, and failing it ends your candidature.
- Warder posts are filled by contiguous district cadre, so check which CDC covers your district in the notification's vacancy table.
