About Assam Police SI
SLPRB's SI recruitment fills Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Branch) posts in Assam Police along with a few equivalent posts in APRO, Fire and Emergency Services and the Prison Department. The advertisement dated 12 December 2025 has 102 posts: 48 SI (UB), 4 SI (Communication), 6 Station Officer, 5 Squad Commander and 39 Assistant Jailor. You need a degree, and unlike the constable process, the written test comes before the PET.

- You must be a permanent resident of Assam and registered with a local employment exchange in Assam.
- You must speak Assamese or another state language fluently.
- Height for SI (UB), SI (Communication), Station Officer and Squad Commander: 162.5 cm for men and 154 cm for women (160 cm and 152 cm for ST(P) and ST(H)). Assistant Jailor has its own standards in the advertisement.
- Men need a chest of at least 80 cm with 5 cm expansion (78 cm for ST(H)).

What they ask
The SI written test has 100 one-mark questions on an OMR sheet, and half a mark is lost for every wrong answer. It covers reasoning, aptitude and English comprehension, the history and culture of Assam and India, and general knowledge. The paper comes in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali and English. Written marks decide who is called to the PET and make up 100 of the 150 marks in the final merit.
How to prepare
- Put the written test first in your plan: it carries 100 of the 150 final marks and decides the PET shortlist of five times the posts.
- Read Assam's history and culture in depth alongside Indian history, since the syllabus names both.
- Be selective in the written test. With half a mark lost per wrong answer, blind guessing pulls your score down.
- Men should train to run 1600 m in 5 minutes (300 seconds earns full marks); women need 800 m in 160 seconds for full marks.
- An NCC 'C' certificate adds 5 marks to the final merit, so upload it with your application if you have one.
