About Assam Fireman
Assam's Fire and Emergency Services hires Firemen and Emergency Rescuers through SLPRB. The advertisement dated 16 January 2026 lists 337 Fireman and 41 Emergency Rescuer posts, and both are open to male applicants only. You need HS (Science) and must be 18 to 25 years old. Selection uses the same PET, written test and viva route as other SLPRB constable-level posts.

Other conditions
- You must be a permanent resident of Assam and registered with a local employment exchange in Assam.
- You must speak Assamese or another state language fluently.
- Minimum height is 162.5 cm (160 cm for ST(P) and ST(H)), and chest at least 80 cm with 5 cm expansion (78 cm for ST(H)).
- Distance vision must be 6/6 in at least one eye and not worse than 6/9 in the other, without glasses.

Assam Fireman syllabus
Written test

What they ask
The Fireman written test has 100 questions at Class 9 and 10 level, each worth half a mark, with no negative marking. It covers arithmetic, English, reasoning, Assam's history, geography, polity and economy, and general awareness, in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali or English. Before that, the PET gives up to 20 marks for a 3200 m run and 20 for the long jump, and these marks alone decide who gets to write the paper.
How to prepare
- Work towards a 3200 m time under 10 minutes; slower times lose marks, and anything over 14 minutes disqualifies you.
- Practise the long jump with a measured take-off: below 335 cm you are out, and 500 cm earns the full 20 marks.
- Keep your HS (Science) mark sheet and certificates ready; the qualification is Science stream only.
- Answer every written test question, since a wrong answer costs nothing.
