About Assam Forest Guard

SLPRB recruits for Assam's Forest Department in the same drive as several police-side posts. The advertisement dated 16 January 2026 includes 504 Forest Guard, 211 Forester Grade-I, 74 Game Watcher and 405 AFPF Constable posts. Forest Guard and Game Watcher need Class 12, Forester Grade-I needs a degree and AFPF Constable needs Class 10. Forest Guard, Game Watcher and Forester candidates also have to clear a long walking test.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2026.

Age relaxation

• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• OBC: 3 years
• Ex-servicemen: 2 years
• SC, ST(P) and ST(H): 5 years
• OBC/MOBC: 3 years
• Ex-servicemen: 2 more years for Forester Grade-I, Forest Guard and Game Watcher
• AFPF Constable has a lower band of 18 to 25 years

Qualification

Forest Guard and Game Watcher: HS (10+2) or equivalent. Forester Grade-I: a bachelor's degree in any discipline. AFPF Constable: HSLC or equivalent.

Other conditions

• You must be a permanent resident of Assam, registered with a local employment exchange in Assam, and fluent in Assamese or another state language.
• Height for Forest Guard, Forester Grade-I and Game Watcher: 163 cm for men and 150 cm for women (153 cm and 145 cm for ST(P) and ST(H)). Men need a chest of 79 cm with 5 cm expansion.
• AFPF Constable follows the police standard: 162.5 cm for men and 154 cm for women (160 cm and 152 cm for ST), with an 80 cm chest for men (78 cm for ST(H)).

Selection process

1. PET (40 marks), then a medical exam and PST
2. Written test for 5 times the posts, picked on PET marks
3. Walking test for Forester Grade-I, Forest Guard and Game Watcher (qualifying)
4. Viva-voce (5 marks) for 2 times the posts
5. NCC weightage of up to 5 marks
6. Final merit: out of 100 for Forest Guard, Game Watcher and AFPF Constable, out of 150 for Forester Grade-I

Assam Forest Guard syllabus

What they ask

Forest Guard, Game Watcher and AFPF Constable candidates take the Class 9 and 10 level paper: 100 questions for 50 marks with no negative marking. Forester Grade-I candidates take a separate 100-mark paper where half a mark is cut for each wrong answer. Both papers include Assam-specific questions and are set in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali and English. The walking test (26 km for men, 16 km for women, in 4 hours) carries no marks, but failing it ends your candidature.

How to prepare

• Build up long walks well before the call letter: 26 km in 4 hours for men and 16 km for women needs a steady pace of about 6.5 km and 4 km an hour.
• Run the 3200 m (men) or 1600 m (women) with a stopwatch every week; PET marks decide who reaches the written test.
• If you apply for Forester Grade-I, practise with negative marking in mind, since that paper cuts half a mark per wrong answer.
• Revise Assam's geography, including its rivers, national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, as part of the Assam GK section.
• Use daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for arithmetic, reasoning and GK.
