About Gujarat Forest Guard

Forest Guard (Vanrakshak) is a Class 3 post in the Gujarat Forest Department, and GSSSB runs the recruitment. Selection has a written test, a physical efficiency test and a walking test. The latest advertisement read here, No. 335/2025-26, was a special drive only for candidates with disabilities, so confirm the details below in the next general advertisement.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–33 years, counted on 10 August 2025.

Age relaxation

• Candidates with disabilities: 10 years (unreserved men), 15 years (unreserved women and reserved men), 20 years (reserved women), up to 45

Qualification

Higher Secondary (Class 12) pass from a recognised board or an equivalent exam, plus basic knowledge of computer applications as set in the Gujarat Civil Services Classification and Recruitment (General) Rules, 1967, and adequate knowledge of Gujarati, Hindi or both.

Other conditions

• Minimum height: men 163 cm (155 cm for ST candidates of Gujarat origin); women 150 cm (145 cm for ST candidates of Gujarat origin).
• Men's chest: at least 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded, with an expansion of at least 5 cm.
• Minimum weight: 50 kg for men and women.

Selection process

1. Written exam (MCQ, OMR or computer-based)
2. Physical efficiency test for those scoring at least 40% in the written exam (at least 8 times the vacancies are called, district and category wise): men run 1600 m in 6 minutes, women 800 m in 4 minutes, plus high jump, long jump, and for men pull-ups and rope climbing
3. Walking test: 25 km for men and 14 km for women, each within 4 hours

What they ask

The written exam has 100 questions of 2 marks each, 200 marks in 2 hours, in Gujarati. Half the marks come from nature topics: environment and ecology, forests, wildlife, water, soil, medicinal plants and wood-based industries. General knowledge is 25% of the paper, and maths and Gujarati 12.5% each. You need at least 40% (80 marks) to be called for the physical test.

How to prepare

• Spend half your study time on forests, wildlife, ecology and medicinal plants, since that section is worth 100 of the 200 marks.
• Train for the 1600 m run (men, 6 minutes) or 800 m run (women, 4 minutes) along with jumps well before the written result.
• Build walking endurance too. The walking test is 25 km for men and 14 km for women, each to be finished within 4 hours.
• Each question is worth 2 marks and wrong answers lose 0.25, so attempt the questions you can narrow down.
