About Haryana Forest Guard
Forest guards are the field staff of the Haryana Forest Department. HSSC advertised 779 Forest Guard posts in Advertisement 04/2026 (published 6 February 2026), open to candidates who qualified the Group C CET. Along with the written exam, you must meet physical standards that include a long walking test.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–42 years.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- OBC: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Relaxation is for DSC/OSC, BC-A/BC-B, PwBD, ex-servicemen and other categories resident in Haryana, as per the state instruction of 25 March 2022 (Appendix-L of the advertisement).
- With relaxation, the upper age cannot go past 52 years, except for ex-servicemen.
Qualification
10+2 or equivalent from a recognised state education board or university, and Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in matric or higher education.
Other conditions
- Men: height 168 cm, chest 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded, and a 25 km walk completed within 4 hours.
- Women: height 155 cm and a 14 km walk completed within 4 hours.
- You must have qualified the Group C CET.

What they ask
The written exam has 100 questions for 100 marks in 1 hour 45 minutes, on an OMR sheet in English and Hindi. About 70 percent of the paper comes from the Forest Guard syllabus, which mixes general awareness, reasoning, English, maths and Hindi with less common units: Haryana's economy, rural marketing, insurance basics and environmental studies with the forest and wildlife laws. The other 30 percent is a general block and computer basics. A wrong answer costs nothing, but a question with no bubble filled costs one mark.
How to prepare
- Build up to the walking test well before the call letter. Men must cover 25 km and women 14 km, each within 4 hours.
- Study environmental studies properly: ecosystems, pollution control and the Wildlife Protection and Forest Conservation Acts are named in the syllabus.
- Do not skip the unusual units. Insurance basics, rural marketing and Haryana's economy are all listed and are easy marks once revised.
- Fill the fifth bubble for any question you skip; an empty row costs one mark.
