About Goa Forest Guard
Forest Guards and Round Foresters are field staff of the Goa Forest Department. GSSC Advertisement No. 2 of 2026, dated 20 February 2026, listed 9 Forest Guard posts at pay level 2 and 23 Round Forester posts at pay level 3. Everyone selected must complete a twelve-month course at the Forest Training School, Valpoi, or wherever the department directs; failing a subject holds back increments and promotion until it is cleared.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: Up to 35 years, counted on Last date of application (13 March 2026 in Advertisement No. 2 of 2026).
Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- Government servants get up to 5 years.
- Ex-servicemen and other listed groups get relaxation under the government orders in force.

- Men: height at least 163 cm; chest 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded; walk 25 km within 4 hours.
- Women: height at least 150 cm; walk 16 km within 4 hours.
- You need a valid 15-year Goa residence certificate and Goa Employment Exchange registration.

What they ask
The written part follows the usual GSSC format: multiple choice, 60 marks per test, 75 minutes, no negative marking. CBT-I has 30 marks of English, 10 of reasoning, 10 of arithmetic and 10 of Konkani. CBT-II, which sets the merit list, keeps the English, reasoning and arithmetic and adds 20 marks on the general geography of Goa. The physical stage is a long-distance walk rather than sprints and jumps.
How to prepare
- Study Goa's geography in depth for CBT-II, for example its talukas, rivers, ghats, forests and wildlife sanctuaries. The section carries a third of the marks that decide selection.
- Train for the walking test with long timed walks. Men must cover 25 km and women 16 km within 4 hours.
- If you have passed Class 12, apply for both Forest Guard and Round Forester. The CBT-II is common and you choose the post after the result.
- Secure the 4-mark Konkani minimum in CBT-I; below it, the rest of your answers are not marked.
