About GTET
GTET is the teacher eligibility test held by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. It is not a recruitment exam. A pass is one of the conditions for teaching Classes I to VIII in government schools, government-aided schools and private schools under the Goa government, and the bulletin says it gives no right to a job. The certificate is valid for life, and GSSC primary teacher recruitment asks for a TET pass recognised by the Goa government. The July 2026 round was scheduled for 21 and 22 July at centres in Mapusa, Ponda and Margao.
Eligibility
Qualification
Paper I: Class 12 with at least 50% (45% under the NCTE 2002 regulations) and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education, or Class 12 with 50% and a four-year B.El.Ed., or Class 12 with 50% and a two-year D.Ed. (Special Education), or graduation with 50% and a B.Ed. Paper II: graduation with a two-year D.El.Ed., or graduation with 50% (45% under NCTE norms) and a B.Ed., or Class 12 with 50% and a four-year B.El.Ed. or integrated B.A./B.Sc. B.Ed., or graduation with 50% and a B.Ed. (Special Education). Most routes also accept candidates in the final year of the course.
Other conditions
- SC, ST, OBC and differently abled candidates get up to 5% relaxation in the marks required in the qualifying degree or diploma.
- There is no limit on attempts, and you can retake GTET to improve your score.
- A B.Ed. holder appointed to teach Classes I to V must complete a six-month NCTE-recognised bridge course within two years of appointment.

Child development and pedagogy
- Growth and development, heredity and environment, Piaget's stages
- Intelligence, multiple and emotional intelligence, personality, adjustment
- Learning theories: conditioning, cognitivism, constructivism; motivation and memory
- Curriculum, evaluation, continuous and comprehensive evaluation, test construction
- Inclusive education: gifted children, slow learners, learning disabilities
Languages (English and Konkani or Marathi)
- Unseen prose and poem passages with comprehension, grammar and verbal ability
- Aims and methods of language teaching
- Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
- Teaching-learning materials, diagnostic testing and remedial teaching
Mathematics and environmental studies (Paper I)
- Numbers, the four operations, geometry and shapes, measurement, time, money, data handling, patterns
- Methods of teaching mathematics, error analysis, remedial teaching

Paper II subject content

What they ask
Each paper has 150 one-mark multiple-choice questions and no negative marking. The questions are in English except Language II, which is set in Konkani or Marathi. Subject content follows the SCERT syllabus for the classes the paper covers, but the difficulty can go up to Secondary level for Paper I and Senior Secondary level for Paper II. In Paper I every language, mathematics and EVS section is half content and half teaching method; in Paper II the mathematics and science sections are two-thirds content and one-third pedagogy.
How to prepare
- Aim for 90 out of 150 if you are in the general category. Since there is no negative marking, answer every question.
- Study the pedagogy half of each subject carefully. In Paper I, 15 of the 30 questions in each language, mathematics and EVS section are about teaching methods.
- Use the SCERT textbooks for Classes I to VIII as your content base, then practise harder questions, since items can reach Secondary or Senior Secondary level.
- Choose the Language II you read and write most comfortably. Konkani and Marathi are the only options, and the section is set in that language.
- Take daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for child development and pedagogy.

How to apply
- Go to gbshse.in, open Services and choose the GTET application form link for the current round.
- Register with your mobile number and email, verify both, and log in.
- Fill in personal details, address, the paper you want, Language II and, for Paper II, your optional subject.
- Upload your photograph (JPG or JPEG, 100 x 130 pixels, up to 1 MB), your signature (JPG, 140 x 60 pixels, up to 1 MB) and your certificates as PDF files of up to 1 MB each.
- Pay the fee online: Rs 1,800 for one paper or Rs 3,000 for both (General/OBC), Rs 900 or Rs 1,500 (SC/ST); PwD candidates are exempt.
Photo and signature
- Photo: Recent passport-size photograph, JPG or JPEG, 100 x 130 pixels, up to 1 MB.
- Signature: JPG, 140 x 60 pixels, up to 1 MB.
