About Assam Police Constable
SLPRB recruits constables for the Unarmed Branch (UB) and Armed Branch (AB) of Assam Police. The advertisement dated 5 December 2025 lists 1,052 UB and 663 AB posts, and there is no application fee. UB needs Class 12 and AB needs Class 10, and you must be a permanent resident of Assam. The physical test comes first; only the best PET scorers are called to the written test.

Qualification
Constable (UB): HS or Class 12 pass. Constable (AB): HSLC or Class 10 pass. With Class 12 or higher you can apply for both branches and must state your preference.
Other conditions
- You must be a permanent resident of Assam and registered with a local employment exchange in Assam.
- You must speak Assamese or another state language fluently.
- Minimum height is 162.5 cm for men and 154 cm for women (160 cm and 152 cm for ST(P) and ST(H)).
- Men need a chest of at least 80 cm with 5 cm expansion (78 cm for ST(H)).
- Distance vision must be 6/6 in at least one eye and not worse than 6/9 in the other, without glasses.
- Women have 30% of UB posts and 10% of AB posts within each category.

Written test

What they ask
The written test has 100 multiple choice questions at Class 9 and 10 level, each worth half a mark, so the paper is out of 50. There is no negative marking. It covers arithmetic, English, reasoning, Assam's history, geography, polity and economy, and general awareness, and you can take it in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali or English. The PET carries 40 marks (60 for AB men), close to the written test's weight in the final merit.
How to prepare
- Start run training early. Men get full race marks for 3200 m within 10 minutes; women get full marks for 1600 m within 5 minutes 30 seconds.
- Train to score in the PET, not just to pass it: the written test shortlist is five times the posts, ranked on PET marks. AB men also need at least 4 chin-ups, with full marks at 14.
- Study Assam's history, geography, polity and economy as a subject of its own, since it is one of the five written test areas.
- Answer all 100 questions in the written test, because wrong answers carry no penalty.
