Assam Jail Warder syllabus

Written test

  • Elementary Arithmetic
  • General English
  • Logical reasoning and mental ability
  • Assam's history, geography, polity and economy
  • General awareness, general knowledge and current affairs

What they ask

The Jail Warder written test is the same shape as the constable paper: 100 questions at Class 9 and 10 level, half a mark each, and no negative marking. Questions come from arithmetic, English, reasoning, Assam's history, geography, polity and economy, and general awareness. The paper is set in Assamese, Bodo, Bengali and English. The PET races are shorter than for constables, 1600 m for men and 800 m for women, and they carry 40 of the 100 final marks.

How to prepare

  • Train for the 1600 m (men) or 800 m (women) race with a stopwatch; full marks need 300 seconds for men and 160 seconds for women.
  • PET marks decide the written test shortlist, so aim for a high long jump too: 335 cm is the minimum for men and 244 cm for women.
  • Revise Class 9 and 10 arithmetic and grammar, since the paper is pitched at that level.
  • Attempt every question in the written test; there is no penalty for a wrong answer.
  • Use daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app to keep Assam GK and current affairs fresh.
