About CG Staff Nurse
The Directorate of Health Services hires Staff Nurses for government hospitals by division, with each divisional Joint Director as the appointing authority. The advertisement of 13 August 2025 listed 225 posts across Raipur, Bilaspur, Surguja and Bastar, open only to local residents. Vyapam held the written exam under code HSSN25.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–35 years, counted on 1 January 2025.
Age relaxation
- Local residents of Chhattisgarh get a 5-year relaxation on the upper limit of 35, extended up to 31 December 2028.
- Relaxations for other special categories continue, but all relaxations together cannot take the age past 45.
Qualification
B.Sc (Nursing), or Post Basic B.Sc (Nursing), or the General Nursing and Senior Midwifery (GNM) training course, and registration as a nurse and midwife with the Chhattisgarh Nursing Council.
Other conditions
- Chhattisgarh Nursing Council registration must be live on the last date of application.
- Divyang reservation is for the OL (one leg) category only.
- Minimum qualifying mark in the exam: 33% for unreserved and 23% for reserved candidates.
- Temporary health workers who served 6 months within a year during the Covid-19 pandemic get 10 bonus marks (addendum of 1 September 2025).

Unit 1 (20 marks): basic sciences and clinical nursing

What they ask
The exam is 100 one-mark nursing questions in 2 hours, with a quarter mark cut for each wrong answer. The official syllabus has five units of 20 marks each. The first unit alone packs anatomy, microbiology, fundamentals, medical-surgical nursing and midwifery, so it is the widest. The other four cover community health and nutrition, mental health with psychology and sociology, professional trends with computer basics, and nursing education and administration.
How to prepare
- Revise your GNM or B.Sc Nursing textbooks unit by unit against the official syllabus, since every question is from nursing subjects.
- Do not skip the nursing education and administration unit; it carries the same 20 marks as the clinical units.
- Learn the national health programmes and immunisation schedule for community health questions.
- Mark only answers you are sure of, because wrong answers cost 0.25 marks and you need at least 33% (23% if reserved).
