About UP Police Constable
The UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board fills constable-level posts in the state police and the prisons department through one common recruitment. The 2025 notice, dated 31 December 2025, covered civil police, PAC, the Special Security Force, women battalions, mounted police and jail warders, 32,679 posts in all. These posts are at pay level 3 (₹21,700 to ₹69,100).
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–22 years, counted on 1 July 2025.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- Ex-servicemen: 3 years
- The limit of 18 to 22 years is for men. Women can be 18 to 25 years old on 1 July 2025.
- SC, ST and OBC candidates who are native residents of Uttar Pradesh, and UP state government employees, get 5 extra years.
- UP ex-servicemen subtract their army service from their actual age; the result may cross the limit by no more than 3 years.
- After the notice came out, a state government order of 5 January 2026 gave candidates of every category a one-time 3-year relaxation for this recruitment only. That takes the general limit to 25 for men and 28 for women.

Class 12 pass from a board set up by law in India, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government. You must already hold the result when you apply; candidates still appearing are not eligible.
Other conditions
- PAC, Special Security Force and Mounted Police posts are for men only; Women Battalion posts are for women only.
- Physical standards for men: height 168 cm (160 cm for ST), chest 79 cm unexpanded and 84 cm expanded (77 and 82 cm for ST), with at least 5 cm expansion.
- Physical standards for women: height 152 cm (147 cm for ST) and weight at least 40 kg.
- Reservation and the reserved-category age relaxation are only for native residents of Uttar Pradesh. Seats reserved for women are open to women from any state.
- A NIELIT 'O' level certificate, two years in the Territorial Army or an NCC 'B' certificate gives no extra marks; it only breaks ties.

What they ask
The written paper is one objective test on an OMR sheet: 150 questions at 2 marks each, 300 marks in all, in 2 hours. Questions cover general knowledge, general Hindi, numerical ability and reasoning. The GK list asks specifically about Uttar Pradesh, including its culture, social customs, revenue, police and administration, alongside national current affairs, cyber crime and awards. You must score at least 30% (unreserved), 25% (EWS and OBC) or 20% (SC and ST) in the written exam to stay eligible.
How to prepare
- You get less than a minute per question (150 questions in 120 minutes), so take full-length timed mocks and practise filling the OMR bubbles within that time.
- Keep a separate notebook for Uttar Pradesh facts: districts, culture, social customs, revenue and police administration are named in the GK syllabus.
- For General Hindi, learn tatsam-tadbhav pairs, synonyms, antonyms, sandhi, samas, muhavare and lokoktiyan as lists and revise them every week.
- Start running early. The physical efficiency test is pass or fail: 4.8 km in 25 minutes for men and 2.4 km in 14 minutes for women.

- Complete One Time Registration (OTR) on uppbpb.gov.in.
- Fill the online form, upload your educational and reservation certificates, and set your post preferences. Preferences cannot be changed after submission.
- Pay the fee online: ₹500 for general, EWS and OBC; ₹400 for SC and ST.
- Download the admit card for each stage from the Board's website when it is released.
UP Police Constable FAQs
The notice counts age on 1 July 2025: 18 to 22 for men and 18 to 25 for women in the general and EWS categories, with 5 more years for SC, ST and OBC candidates who are native residents of Uttar Pradesh. In January 2026 the state added a one-time 3-year relaxation for every category in this recruitment.
