About UPSSSC PET
The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) conducts the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) as the mandatory first-stage screening exam for Group C (and non-gazetted Group B) recruitments in Uttar Pradesh. Clearing PET does not provide a job directly; instead, UPSSSC uses your PET score and percentile to shortlist candidates for post-specific Main examinations such as Rajasva Lekhpal, Junior Assistant, Gram Panchayat Adhikari (VDO) and Forest Guard.

What they ask
UPSSSC PET is a 100-mark OMR paper with fixed topic weights: 30 of the 100 marks come from two unread Hindi passages (10 marks), two graphs (10 marks) and two tables (10 marks), and another 20 marks come from Current Affairs (10) and Static General Awareness (10). Because post-specific Main exams often shortlist only the top 15 to 30 times the number of vacancies, you need a high percentile (often 90+ percentile for smaller-intake posts), not just a passing score.
How to prepare
- Master the 20-mark Graph and Table Interpretation section and the 10-mark Hindi passage section first—those 30 marks alone can push your PET score above the Main exam cut-off.
- Study Current Affairs (10 marks) and General Awareness (10 marks) together; static GK topics like neighbours, capitals, research institutes and days are explicitly listed in the syllabus.
- Follow NCERT Class 6 to 10 books for Indian History, National Movement, Geography and Science, as the notice specifies NCERT Secondary/Senior Secondary difficulty.
- Avoid wild guesses under the 0.25 negative marking rule because a single mark shifts your percentile sharply across lakhs of test-takers.
- Practise data interpretation, arithmetic and static GK daily on the free Improvam app.

UPSSSC PET FAQs
There is no fixed passing mark in PET itself. Instead, whenever UPSSSC advertises a Group C Main exam (such as Lekhpal or Junior Assistant), it announces a post-specific PET score cut-off based on the number of vacancies.
