About SSC MTS
SSC MTS recruits Class 10 pass candidates for Multi-Tasking Staff posts in central government offices across states and union territories, and for Havaldar posts in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and the Central Bureau of Narcotics. Both are Group C posts at Pay Level 1. The 2025 notice listed 1,075 tentative Havaldar vacancies, while MTS vacancies were still being collected when it came out.

Age relaxation
- OBC: 3 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- MTS: 18 to 25 years for most posts, 18 to 27 years for a few MTS posts in some departments.
- Havaldar in CBIC and CBN: 18 to 27 years.
- PwBD candidates get 10 years (13 for OBC, 15 for SC/ST).
- Ex-servicemen get 3 years after deducting their military service from their actual age.
Qualification
Matriculation (Class 10) pass from a recognised board by 1 August 2025.
Other conditions
- Havaldar walk test: men walk 1,600 metres in 15 minutes, women 1 km in 20 minutes.
- Havaldar physical standards: men 157.5 cm height and 81 cm chest with 5 cm expansion; women 152 cm height and 48 kg weight. Garhwalis, Assamese, Gorkhas and Scheduled Tribe candidates get lower limits.

What they ask
The exam has two 45-minute sessions on the same day. Session-I has 40 questions on maths and reasoning and no negative marking. Session-II has 50 questions on general awareness and English, each worth 3 marks, and a wrong answer there costs 1 mark. General awareness stays within Class 10 social studies, general science and environmental studies. Papers are available in Hindi, English and 13 regional languages.
How to prepare
- Attempt every question in Session-I. There is no negative marking there, so a blank earns nothing.
- Be selective in Session-II, where each wrong answer costs 1 mark.
- Revise Class 9 and 10 NCERT social science and science for general awareness, since the notice limits it to that level.
- If you are aiming for Havaldar, practise the 1,600-metre walk in 15 minutes (1 km in 20 minutes for women) before the result comes out.
