About TGPSC Group 4
Group-IV brings in clerical and support staff for state departments, residential school societies, universities and municipalities. Most posts are Junior Assistant, and the 2022 round also had 1,862 Ward Officer posts. The latest notification, No. 19/2022 dated 1 December 2022, listed 8,039 vacancies.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–44 years, counted on 1 July 2022.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- EWS: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Telangana state government employees: up to 5 years based on regular service. Ex-servicemen and NCC instructors: 3 years plus length of service.
- These limits are from the 2022 notice. G.O.Ms.No.30 of 8 February 2024, cited in the 2024 Group-I notice, later raised the general upper limit for non-uniformed posts to 46, so check the next Group-IV notification.
Qualification
A bachelor's degree for every post. Junior Accountant under post code 03 needs a B.Com; Junior Assistant (F&A) under post code 61B needs a B.Com (Computers); Junior Assistant under post code 15 needs 50% in graduation (40% for SC/ST); Matron under post code 93 is for women graduates.
Other conditions
- Only women could apply for post codes 11B, 55B, 75B and 88B (Junior Assistant in girls' institutions), 93 (Matron) and 94 (Matron Grade-II).
- Supervisor (post code 95) needs men to be at least 167 cm tall with an 86.3 cm chest and 5 cm expansion, and women 152.5 cm and 45.5 kg. Matron Grade-II (post code 94) needs 152.5 cm and 45.5 kg. Both must be certified by a government Civil Assistant Surgeon.

What they ask
Group-IV has two objective papers of 150 questions each, 150 minutes per paper and 300 marks in total, in English, Telugu or Urdu. Paper I is general studies with a strong Telangana focus: its history and movement, society and culture, state policies, geography and economy. Paper II, called Secretarial Abilities, tests mental ability, logical reasoning, comprehension, sentence rearrangement and arithmetic.
How to prepare
- Practise Paper II under a timer every day. Reasoning, sentence rearrangement and arithmetic improve with drills, and the paper carries the same 150 marks as general studies.
- Cover the Telangana topics early: four of the eleven Paper I topics name Telangana directly.
- Aim for one question a minute; each paper gives exactly 150 minutes for 150 questions.
- Take daily topic-wise practice quizzes on the free Improvam app for current affairs and reasoning.
- Check the post-wise qualification table before choosing posts, since some need a B.Com or a minimum graduation percentage.
