About Rajasthan VDO
The Village Development Officer works at gram panchayat level for the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department. RSSB's 2025 notification has 850 posts: 683 in non-scheduled areas and 167 in scheduled areas. Like Patwari, it was open only to candidates who qualified CET (Graduation level) 2024.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- EWS: 5 years
- 5 years for general women; 5 years for SC, ST, OBC, MBC and EWS men who are permanent residents of Rajasthan; 10 years for women of these categories.
- 3 extra years for all applicants in the 2025 cycle, because no VDO exam was held in the previous three years.
Qualification
Graduation or an equivalent qualification, plus a computer qualification from the notification list, such as O level from DOEACC, COPA or DPCS, a computer science or computer applications diploma, or RS-CIT. Working knowledge of Hindi in Devanagari and knowledge of Rajasthani culture are also required.

What they ask
The VDO paper has 160 questions for 200 marks in 3 hours, so each question is worth less than in the Patwari paper. Rajasthan carries heavy weight: geography and resources, agriculture and economy, and history and culture are 30 marks each. The maths section goes up to linear equations and central tendency, a little beyond pure arithmetic. A third of the marks is cut for each wrong answer.
How to prepare
- Cover the three Rajasthan blocks (geography, agriculture and economy, history and culture) first; together they carry 90 of 200 marks.
- Include the panchayati raj and 73rd Amendment topics, which tie directly to the job and appear in the syllabus.
- Revise class 10 algebra and statistics along with arithmetic for the maths section.
- Solve RSSB previous papers from the board's old papers page to get used to the question style.
