About MPESB Group 3 Sub Engineer

Group 3 is MPESB’s combined test for diploma-level technical posts in Madhya Pradesh departments and development authorities. The first 2026 advertisement of 18 August was cancelled on 24 August, and the test was advertised again with a new rulebook. That rulebook includes Sub Engineer posts in the Public Works Department and the Indore Development Authority, along with draughtsman and lab technician posts. One online paper tests general ability and your own branch.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2026.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 5 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • SC, ST, OBC, women, home guards and government, corporation or board employees from MP: upper limit 45.

Qualification

A diploma (or higher qualification) in the subject the hiring department's recruitment rules ask for, for example a civil engineering diploma for Sub Engineer (Civil) in the Public Works Department.

Other conditions

  • Live registration with an MP employment office is mandatory.

What they ask

The paper is 200 marks in 3 hours, split equally between general subjects and your diploma branch. Because the general part carries as much as the technical part, a strong Part A score matters as much as your branch knowledge. Your post preferences decide which merit lists you appear in.

How to prepare

  • Give Part A the same time as your branch subject, because both carry 100 marks.
  • Revise the full diploma syllabus of your own branch for Part B, as the rulebook sets the subject paper by the post you choose.
  • Read the post code tables before choosing preferences, since each department sets its own diploma requirement.
  • Practise reasoning and computer basics, which many diploma holders skip.
