About MP Van Rakshak

Forest guards protect forests and wildlife for the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department. MPESB held the 2026 test together with the Kshetra Rakshak, Jail Prahari and Assistant Jail Superintendent posts. The April 2026 revision of the rulebook raised the Van Rakshak count from 728 to 1,111: 1,007 regular posts and 104 backlog posts. Van Rakshak is a district cadre post, and after the written test you must pass a physical measurement check and a long walk test.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–33 years, counted on 1 January 2026.

Age relaxation

• OBC: 5 years
• SC: 5 years
• ST: 5 years
• Women of all categories, SC, ST and OBC men, and government, corporation, board or home guard staff from MP: upper limit 38.

Qualification

Class 10 (High School) pass under the 10+2 system from the MP Board of Secondary Education or a recognised board, or Higher Secondary under the old system.

Other conditions

• Candidates who are not MP residents can apply only against unreserved open posts, without reservation or age relaxation.
• Being a field post, it has no reservation for candidates with disabilities.
• Height: men 163 cm, women 150 cm (SC and ST: men 152 cm, women 145 cm). Men's chest 79 cm with 5 cm expansion.

3. District-wise merit on written test marks

MP Van Rakshak syllabus

What they ask

The written test is a single 100-mark paper in 2 hours at Class 10 level, covering GK, Hindi, English, maths and science. You need at least 33 per cent (23 per cent for SC, ST and OBC) to pass it. Five times the posts in each category and district are called for the physical round. The walk test is pass or fail: men must cover 25 km in 4 hours and women 14 km in 4 hours. The final district merit list uses written test marks.

How to prepare

• Revise Class 10 maths and science from the MP Board textbooks, since the syllabus is set at High School level.
• Train for the walk well before the result: 25 km in 4 hours for men and 14 km for women, and there is no second attempt.
• Check your height and chest against the rulebook table early. After the on-the-spot appeal committee decides, no second measurement is allowed.
• List the districts you want in careful order, as posts are filled district-wise on merit and preference.
