About MP Jail Prahari
Jail Prahari is the warder post in the Madhya Pradesh Jail Department. The 2026 test was held jointly with the Van Rakshak exam and lists 757 prahari posts. Candidates who clear the written test go through a physical measurement check and a physical proficiency test at the jail headquarters.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–33 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- Women of all categories, SC, ST and OBC candidates, and government, corporation, board and home guard staff from MP: upper limit 38.
Qualification
At least Class 10 (High School) pass under the 10+2 system, or Higher Secondary under the old system.
Other conditions
- Non-residents of MP can apply only against unreserved open posts.
- Height: men 165 cm, women 158 cm. Men's chest at least 83 cm unexpanded.
- Normal eyesight in both eyes is required, and knock knees or flat feet disqualify.
- Women have 35 per cent horizontal reservation.

What they ask
The written paper is the same 100-mark, 2-hour test used for Van Rakshak, set at Class 10 level. The physical test is pass or fail. Men must run 800 m within 2 minutes 50 seconds and throw a 7.26 kg shot 20 feet; women get 4 minutes for the run and throw a 4 kg shot 16 feet, with up to three throws allowed. Rank is decided by written marks among those who pass.
How to prepare
- Time your 800 m runs every week against the 2 minutes 50 seconds limit for men and 4 minutes for women.
- Practise the shot put with the right weight, since you get at most three throws.
- Score as high as you can in the written test, because the physical test only qualifies you and rank comes from written marks.
- Revise Class 10 level maths, science and grammar, which make up most of the paper.
