About JKSSB Junior Assistant
Junior Assistant is the entry-level clerical post in J&K government departments, at pay Level-4 (25500-81100). JKSSB advertised it with Junior Stenographer posts under Advertisement Notification No. 08 of 2025, dated 27 September 2025, for 361 posts across 14 indenting departments. Posts are filled by cadre, so you apply for the UT, divisional or district cadre vacancies listed in Annexure-A. The written test for this cycle was held on 19 April 2026, followed by a type test.

What they ask
The Junior Assistant written paper carries 80 marks in 80 minutes, split equally across English, general awareness, numerical and reasoning ability, and computers. A quarter of the marks is deducted for each wrong answer, and questions are in English only. The general awareness section leans on J&K: its history, economy, geography, heritage and tourist places. Shortlisted candidates then take a type test worth 20 points, and the written and type test scores together make the merit list.
How to prepare
- Treat the computer section as scoring. It is a quarter of the paper and sticks to MS Office, operating systems, e-mail and the internet.
- Build a J&K notes sheet on districts, rivers, lakes, crops, heritage sites and tourist places for the general awareness section.
- Practise typing daily from the start. You need at least 35 words per minute to be eligible, and a faster speed adds to the 20 skill test points.
- Use daily topic-wise quizzes on the free Improvam app for English grammar and arithmetic, and track which topics cost you marks through negative marking.
