What they ask

The syllabus JKSSB notified for the 2024 constable cycle sets 100 one-mark questions in two hours. The 2025 advertisement keeps the paper in English only and cuts a quarter of a question's marks for each wrong answer. English and India-level general knowledge carry 25 questions each, and numerical and reasoning ability another 25. Ten questions are only about J&K, covering its rivers, lakes, power projects, history and tourist places, plus the RTI Act and the Indus Water Treaty. The 2025 advertisement says the syllabus for this cycle will be notified separately, so check the JKSSB syllabus page before the exam.

How to prepare

  • Skip questions you cannot narrow down. Each wrong answer costs a quarter mark, so blind guessing on 100 questions can pull your merit down.
  • Make a one-page J&K list of rivers, lakes, power projects, tourist spots and historical places, because the J&K section is short but fully predictable.
  • Practise the 25 arithmetic and reasoning questions under time, since this section is where most candidates lose minutes.
  • Start running before the written result. Men must finish 1600 m in 6 minutes 30 seconds, and women 1000 m in the same time.
  • Use daily topic-wise quizzes on the free Improvam app for English grammar and computer basics, which together make up 40 questions.
