About JKP SI
JKSSB fills Sub-Inspector posts in J&K Police through a written test followed by physical tests. The latest general SI advertisement, No. 02 of 2024 dated 22 November 2024, offered 669 UT cadre posts at pay Level-6C (35700-113100). The written test has 100 questions of 2 marks each, and the physical tests are qualifying only.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–28 years, counted on 1 January 2024.
Age relaxation
- OM, SC, ST-1, ST-2, RBA, ALC/IB, OBC, EWS and government or contractual employees all have the same limit of 18 to 28 years
- In-service police personnel: up to 30
- Ex-servicemen may deduct their armed forces service from their age, and qualify if the result is no more than 3 years above the upper limit
Qualification
A bachelor's degree from a recognised university, held on or before the last date for the online form.
Other conditions
- Minimum height is 5 feet 6 inches for men, with chest of 32 inches unexpanded and 33.5 inches expanded. Women need a minimum height of 5 feet 2 inches.
- Candidates from the Gorkha community or the Bot tribe get 2 inches of relaxation in height.
- NCC certificate holders get bonus marks in the written test under S.O. 290 of 2021.

What they ask
The JKP SI written test has 100 questions worth 2 marks each in 120 minutes, and every wrong answer costs 0.5 marks. Reasoning and general awareness carry 40 marks each, and the other four sections carry 30 each. The syllabus notice says reasoning, general awareness and English are set at graduation level, while quantitative aptitude, mathematics and computers are at Class 10 level. General awareness includes history, culture, geography and economy with special reference to J&K.
How to prepare
- Give reasoning and general awareness the most time, since together they carry 80 of the 200 marks.
- Revise Class 10 algebra, geometry, trigonometry and statistics for the mathematical abilities section, which the syllabus keeps at matriculation level.
- Attempt only what you can narrow to one or two options. A wrong answer costs a quarter of the 2 marks a right one earns.
- Prepare for the physical tests early. The run and push-up standards are the same as for constables, and failing them ends your selection whatever your written score.
