About WBSSC Group D

Group D staff in government-aided and sponsored schools are selected by WBSSC through the SLST for non-teaching staff. The 1st SLST (NTS) 2025 notification lists 5,488 Group D vacancies (indicative), about two-thirds of that drive's 8,477 posts. The minimum qualification is a Class VIII pass and the written test is set up to Class VIII standard.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2025.

Age relaxation

  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 8 years
  • Further relaxation for candidates covered by the Supreme Court order of 3 April 2025

Qualification

Passed Class VIII from a school recognised by or affiliated to a Board/Council, or equivalent, by the last date of online application.

Other conditions

  • You must have passed the school's medium language as a first, second or third language at the level set in the NTS Rules, 2025.
  • Category certificates must be issued by West Bengal authorities; candidates of other states compete as general.
  • You may apply for only one region.
  • Candidates identified as tainted under the Supreme Court judgment of 3 April 2025 cannot apply.

What they ask

The written test has 40 one-mark questions set up to Class VIII standard, with no negative marking. Half the marks are General Awareness, including West Bengal's traditional and popular culture and recent Indian sports achievements. Reasoning covers series, odd one out, matching and blood relations, and arithmetic stays with five basic chapters. The written test carries 40 of the 50 selection marks.

How to prepare

  • Spend half your time on General Awareness, which is 20 of the 40 written marks; add West Bengal culture and recent sports results to your notes.
  • Master the five arithmetic chapters (average, percentage, LCM-HCF, ratio, simple interest) with Class VIII level practice.
  • Answer every question, since there is no negative marking.
