About WB Jail Warder

Warders work in West Bengal's correctional homes under the Department of Correctional Administration. WBPRB ran the 2023 drive for 130 posts, 100 for men and 30 for women. Apart from Madhyamik, you need a computer literacy certificate, and computer knowledge is tested in both the written test and the interview.

General category: 18–27 years, counted on 1 January 2023.

Age relaxation

  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • Ex-servicemen: as per existing government rules

Qualification

Madhyamik pass from the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education or equivalent, plus a computer literacy certificate from a recognised institution.

Other conditions

  • 10% of the vacancies are reserved for Economically Weaker Sections.

What they ask

The written test has 90 one-mark questions in one hour across five subjects. English carries 25 marks here, much more than in the constable exams, and computer literacy has its own 10-mark section. A quarter mark is cut for each wrong answer. The interview board also checks how well you know computer operation and applications.

How to prepare

  • Give English real time: at 25 marks it ties with general knowledge as the largest section.
  • Practise basic computer operation for the 10-mark Computer Literacy section, since the interview board also tests computer operation and applications.
  • Keep your computer literacy certificate ready, since it is an eligibility condition and is checked before the interview.
  • Men should train for 1600 m in 6 minutes 30 seconds; women need 400 m in 1 minute 50 seconds.
