About WBSSC Group C Clerk
WBSSC recruits clerks for government-aided and sponsored schools through the State Level Selection Test for non-teaching staff. The 1st SLST (NTS) 2025 notification lists 2,989 Clerk vacancies (indicative). Selection adds a 60-mark OMR test to academic marks, experience and an interview that includes a typing and computer proficiency test.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 18–40 years, counted on 1 January 2025.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 8 years
- Further relaxation for candidates covered by the Supreme Court order of 3 April 2025
Qualification
Passed School Final/Madhyamik or equivalent, or old HS in lieu of it, by the last date of online application.
Other conditions
- You must have passed the school's medium language as a first, second or third language at the level set in the NTS Rules, 2025.
- Category certificates must be issued by West Bengal authorities; candidates of other states compete as general.
- You may apply for only one region.
- Candidates identified as tainted under the Supreme Court judgment of 3 April 2025 cannot apply.

What they ask
The written test carries 60 one-mark questions set up to Class X standard, with no negative marking. General Awareness goes beyond standard GK into school-specific topics such as NEP at school level, school education in West Bengal and gender awareness rules. Arithmetic carries as much as General Awareness, and the list is the usual clerk-level set from HCF-LCM to time and work. The interview stage gives 15 marks to computer typing and proficiency, more than the oral interview itself.
How to prepare
- Read up on NEP at school level and West Bengal school education, which are listed General Awareness topics most GK books skip.
- Attempt every question in the written test, since there is no negative marking.
- Start computer typing practice now; typing and proficiency carry 15 of the 25 interview-stage marks.
- Cover the 10 arithmetic chapters in the syllabus in order and practise Class X level problems for each.
