About WBPSC Miscellaneous
The Miscellaneous Services exam is WBPSC's single graduate-level test for a long list of block- and district-level officer posts, from ACDPO and Block Welfare Officer to Revenue Inspector and Auditor of Co-operative Societies. The 2024 advertisement (No. 13/2024) names 19 post types. Vacancies are announced later, not in the advertisement.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 20–44 years, counted on 1 January 2024.
Age relaxation
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- SC, ST and OBC (non-creamy layer) relaxation applies to candidates of West Bengal
- Persons with benchmark disabilities: upper limit up to 45 years
- Reserved-category candidates of other states are treated as general
Qualification
A degree from a recognised university or equivalent, plus the ability to read, write and speak Bengali (not required if your mother tongue is Nepali).
Other conditions
- Men are not eligible for the post of Lady Extension Officer, Mass Education Extension.
- Bengali is tested at the personality test for candidates whose mother tongue is not Bengali or Nepali.

What they ask
The prelims has 100 questions worth 2 marks each in 90 minutes, with 75 questions on General Studies and 25 on arithmetic. Prelims marks are only for screening. The final exam is written on the same day across three papers, and the language papers are set at Higher Secondary (10+2) standard. Paper III repeats the GS and Madhyamik-level arithmetic mix, this time in written form.
How to prepare
- Weight your GS preparation heavily: it carries 150 of the 200 prelims marks and 100 marks again in final Paper III.
- Solve Madhyamik arithmetic in written steps, not only by shortcut, because Paper III asks for worked answers.
- Practise report drafting and precis at Higher Secondary level for Papers I and II, which carry 300 of the 450 final marks.
- Prepare for all three final papers together, since they are held on the same day.
