About Uttarakhand Police SI
UKPSC runs one combined exam for Home Department officer posts in the Uttarakhand Police: Sub Inspector (Civil Police and Intelligence), Platoon Commander in PAC/IRB and Fire Station Second Officer. The last advertisement read for this page was published on 31 January 2024 for 222 posts. Candidates first clear physical tests, and the final merit is made from the written exam.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–28 years, counted on 1 July 2024.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The SC, ST, OBC and disability relaxation is for Uttarakhand candidates.
- Dependants of Uttarakhand freedom fighters get five years.
- Ex-servicemen may deduct their army service from their age; the result must not exceed the upper limit by more than three years.
Qualification
A bachelor's degree from a recognised university for SI and Platoon Commander, and a science degree for Fire Station Second Officer. Ex-servicemen need Intermediate (science stream for Fire Station Second Officer).
Other conditions
- These are Group C posts, so you must have passed Class 10 and Class 12 (or equivalent) from recognised institutions in Uttarakhand and be registered at an employment office in the state. The advertisement lists exceptions, such as children of permanent residents living outside the state for work or study.
- Platoon Commander posts are for men only.
- SI height: 167.7 cm for men and 152 cm for women in general categories, with lower limits for ST and hill-area candidates.
- Men need a chest of 78.8 cm (83.8 cm expanded); women need at least 45 kg weight.

Uttarakhand Police SI syllabus
Paper 1: General Hindi
- Hindi grammar, spelling, vocabulary and usage at high school level
- Hindi literature as taught in Class 10 and 12 (Uttarakhand board and NCERT)
Paper 1: General intelligence and reasoning
- Verbal and non-verbal reasoning: series, analogy, classification, coding, direction and Venn diagrams
Paper 2: General awareness
- History, geography, polity and economy of India and the world
- Uttarakhand topics such as state administration, schemes, biodiversity and disaster management
- Fundamentals of computers
Paper 2: Numerical ability
- High school arithmetic, including time and distance and time and work
What they ask
The SI written exam is heavy on Hindi: 100 of the 300 marks come from General Hindi at high school level. Paper 1 also has 50 reasoning questions, and Paper 2 splits evenly between general awareness and high school maths. Every paper has negative marking of a quarter mark per wrong answer. The physical tests are qualifying only, so your rank depends entirely on the written papers.
How to prepare
- Treat General Hindi as the core subject. It carries a third of the written marks.
- Revise Class 9-10 maths chapters for the numerical ability section, since it is set at high school level.
- Meet the physical standards before you apply and train for the 5 km run in 30 minutes (men) well ahead of the test.
- Mix Uttarakhand current affairs and schemes into your general awareness revision.
