About Uttarakhand Court Junior Assistant
UKSSSC recruits Junior Assistants and Stenographers for the civil and family courts that come under the High Court of Uttarakhand at Nainital. Advertisement 78/UKSSSC/2026, dated 15 June 2026, covers 398 posts: 259 Junior Assistant and 139 Stenographer Grade 1. Candidates choose districts in order of preference and are posted by merit.
Eligibility
Age limit
General category: 21–35 years, counted on 1 January 2026.
Age relaxation
- OBC: 5 years
- SC: 5 years
- ST: 5 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- The SC, ST, OBC and disability relaxation is for Uttarakhand candidates.
- Dependants of Uttarakhand freedom fighters get five years.
- Ex-servicemen may deduct their army service from their age; the result must not exceed the upper limit by more than three years.

Uttarakhand Court Junior Assistant syllabus
Part 1: General knowledge (70 marks)
- Uttarakhand: history, geography, economy, culture and administration (56 marks)
- Other Indian states and union territories (14 marks)
Part 2: General studies (70 marks)
- General Hindi: grammar, spelling, vocabulary, sandhi, idioms, official letters and Hindi literature
- Reasoning: verbal and non-verbal mental ability tests
- Computer fundamentals, history, geography, economics, political science and current affairs
What they ask
The written paper carries 140 marks in two and a half hours, with a quarter mark cut per wrong answer. Uttarakhand general knowledge alone is worth 56 marks, which is two-fifths of the paper. Hindi carries 14 marks and each other general studies subject 8. The typing and shorthand test is qualifying, so the written score sets the merit order.
How to prepare
- Make Uttarakhand GK your main subject; at 56 marks it outweighs all of Part 2's smaller sections.
- Build Hindi computer typing speed to 25 words a minute well before the skill test, and 80 wpm shorthand if you want Stenographer.
- Keep a short list of facts about other states and union territories for the 14-mark section.
