About Uttarakhand Police Constable
UKSSSC recruits male constables for the Uttarakhand Police district force and the PAC/IRB battalions. The latest advertisement (65/UKSSSC/2024, dated 30 October 2024) was for 2,000 posts: 1,600 in district police and 400 in PAC/IRB. Unlike most exams, the physical tests come first and only those who pass them sit the written exam.

Age relaxation

- The SC, ST and OBC relaxation is for Uttarakhand's own reserved categories.
- Dependants of Uttarakhand freedom fighters get five years.
- Home Guards with three years of regular service by 1 July 2024 get five years.
- Ex-servicemen may deduct their army service from their age; the result must not exceed the upper limit by more than three years.
Qualification
Intermediate (Class 12) from the Uttarakhand Board of School Education, Ramnagar, or an equivalent qualification.
Other conditions
- For Group C posts outside UKPSC's scope you need one Uttarakhand link on the last date: registration at an employment office in the state, an Uttarakhand domicile or permanent residence certificate, or Class 10 and Class 12 (or equivalent) passed from recognised institutions in Uttarakhand.
- Minimum height: 165 cm for General, OBC and SC; 160 cm for hill-area candidates; 157.5 cm for ST.
- Chest: 78.8 cm unexpanded and 83.8 cm expanded (76.3 and 81.3 cm for hill-area and ST candidates), with at least 5 cm expansion.
- Vision must be at least 6/6 in one eye and 6/9 in the other without glasses.

Uttarakhand Police Constable syllabus
Part 1: General Hindi (20 marks)
- Hindi language and its dialects, including Kumaoni, Garhwali and Jaunsari
- Devanagari script, spelling, punctuation and correct usage
- Word formation, grammar, tatsam and tadbhav words, synonyms and antonyms, sandhi
- Idioms, proverbs, official letters and notes, and Hindi computing basics
- Hindi prose and poetry writers as taught up to Class 12 (Uttarakhand board and NCERT)
Part 2: General knowledge and general studies (40 marks)
- Reasoning: verbal and non-verbal tests such as series, analogy, coding-decoding, direction, blood relations and puzzles
- History of India and the world, from ancient India to the national movement
- Geography of India and the world
- Indian polity: national movement, Gandhian ideas, Constitution, Parliament and local government
- Indian economy, and state, national and international current affairs
- Fundamentals of computers: hardware, operating system, word processing, spreadsheets, internet and cyber security
Part 3: Uttarakhand-specific knowledge (40 marks)
- Geography, rivers, glaciers, lakes, forests and natural resources of Uttarakhand
- History from early rulers to British rule, the freedom struggle and the separate state movement
- Water sources, irrigation, agriculture, horticulture and the state economy
- Culture, folk arts, society, education, health, tourism and pilgrimage
- Environment, disasters, biodiversity, state administration and government schemes
What they ask
The written exam carries 100 marks in 2 hours, with a quarter of the marks cut for each wrong answer. Forty marks come from Uttarakhand topics alone, so state history, geography and culture weigh as much as all of general studies. General and OBC candidates need 45% and SC/ST candidates 35% to qualify. Your physical efficiency marks are added to the written marks for the final merit list, so a strong run and jump score helps as much as a good paper.
How to prepare
- Train for the events that score most: the 3 km run earns 20 marks at 10 minutes but only 10 at 20 minutes.
- Do not neglect any event. You need at least 50% in each one, and failing one ends your attempt.
- Give Part 3 real time: 40 marks on Uttarakhand history, geography, culture and schemes.
- Revise Class 10-12 level Hindi grammar and the Hindi writers named in the syllabus for Part 1.
