About Uttarakhand Patwari Lekhpal

Patwari and Lekhpal posts in the Uttarakhand Revenue Department are filled through the UKSSSC graduate level exam. Advertisement 70/UKSSSC/2025, dated 9 April 2025, had 119 Patwari and 61 Lekhpal posts, filled district-wise, alongside VDO and other graduate posts. UKSSSC cancelled the written exam held on 21 September 2025 and said it would hold it again. Its notice of 31 July 2026 called shortlisted Patwari and Lekhpal candidates to the physical tests on 6 and 7 August 2026.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 21–35 years, counted on 1 July 2025.

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 5 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • ST: 5 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • The upper limit is 28 for Patwari and 35 for Lekhpal.
  • The SC, ST, OBC and disability relaxation is for Uttarakhand candidates.
  • Dependants of Uttarakhand freedom fighters get five years.
  • Ex-servicemen may deduct their army service from their age; the result must not exceed the upper limit by more than three years.

Qualification

A bachelor's degree from a recognised university, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the government.

Other conditions

  • For Group C posts outside UKPSC's scope you need one Uttarakhand link on the last date: registration at an employment office in the state, an Uttarakhand domicile or permanent residence certificate, or Class 10 and Class 12 (or equivalent) passed from recognised institutions in Uttarakhand.
  • Physical efficiency (Patwari and Lekhpal): men must run 7 km in 60 minutes and women 3.5 km in 35 minutes.
  • Physical standards (Patwari only): height 168 cm for men and 152 cm for women, men's chest 84 cm expanded with 5 cm expansion, women at least 45 kg. Hill-origin candidates get 5 cm relaxation in height and chest.
  • Selected candidates must complete one year of training at their own cost.

Uttarakhand Patwari Lekhpal syllabus

Part 1: General Hindi (20 marks)

  • Hindi language and its dialects, including Kumaoni, Garhwali and Jaunsari
  • Devanagari script, spelling, punctuation and correct usage
  • Word formation, grammar, tatsam and tadbhav words, synonyms and antonyms, sandhi
  • Idioms, proverbs, official letters and notes, and Hindi computing basics
  • Hindi prose and poetry writers as taught up to Class 12 (Uttarakhand board and NCERT)

Part 2: General knowledge and general studies (40 marks)

  • Reasoning: verbal and non-verbal tests such as series, analogy, coding-decoding, direction, blood relations and puzzles
  • History of India and the world, from ancient India to the national movement
  • Geography of India and the world
  • Indian polity: national movement, Gandhian ideas, Constitution, Parliament and local government
  • Indian economy, and state, national and international current affairs
  • Fundamentals of computers: hardware, operating system, word processing, spreadsheets, internet and cyber security

Part 3: Uttarakhand-specific knowledge (40 marks)

  • Geography, rivers, glaciers, lakes, forests and natural resources of Uttarakhand
  • History from early rulers to British rule, the freedom struggle and the separate state movement
  • Water sources, irrigation, agriculture, horticulture and the state economy
  • Culture, folk arts, society, education, health, tourism and pilgrimage
  • Environment, disasters, biodiversity, state administration and government schemes

What they ask

The written exam is 100 marks in 2 hours, with a quarter of a question's marks cut for each wrong answer. Uttarakhand topics alone carry 40 marks, general studies another 40 and General Hindi 20. General and OBC candidates must score 45% and SC/ST candidates 35% to qualify. After the written exam, Patwari and Lekhpal candidates face a timed run, and Patwari candidates also have their height and chest measured.

How to prepare

  • Check your age against the post first: Patwari closes at 28, while Lekhpal allows up to 35.
  • Put Uttarakhand knowledge first, since Part 3 alone is worth 40 marks.
  • Start running practice early. Men need 7 km in an hour and women 3.5 km in 35 minutes.
  • Revise the computer fundamentals unit in Part 2; it is short and often skipped.
