About Chandigarh District Court Clerk
The District and Sessions Judge, Chandigarh fills clerk vacancies in the district courts on an ad hoc basis, for six months or until the High Court makes a regular appointment, whichever comes first. Employment Notice No. 3 of 2025 listed 8 posts (5 General, 2 OBC and 1 PwD locomotor) with pay fixed at the Deputy Commissioner's rates. Ad hoc service does not give any claim to a regular post.

Other conditions
- OBC benefit is only for castes notified as OBC in the Union Territory, Chandigarh. OBC candidates from other states are treated as General.
- The 2025 notice asked for a signed application on the prescribed form, sent in hard copy with self-attested documents and two photographs to the District Court Complex, Sector 43. Forms sent electronically were rejected.
- Candidates should also check the Chandigarh Union Territory Subordinate Courts Establishment (Recruitment and General Conditions of Service) Rules, 1997.

What they ask
The written exam has only two papers, English Composition and General Knowledge, each worth 50 marks. The notice sets a floor of 33% in each paper and 40% overall, so a good score in one cannot rescue a very low score in the other. The court does not publish a detailed syllabus, so treat English Composition as a test of how well you write and General Knowledge as broad current and static awareness. After the written round, the shortlisted candidates sit a computer proficiency test.
How to prepare
- Practise writing in English every day, such as short essays, letters and paragraphs, since half the marks come from a paper called English Composition.
- Aim well above the 33% floor in both papers, because you also need 40% in aggregate to be considered.
- Use a computer regularly before the notice comes out. Shortlisted candidates take a separate proficiency test in operating computers, and the notice does not describe its format.
- Keep your Class 10 marksheet ready: it must show Hindi or Punjabi as a subject, along with your BA or B.Sc. degree.
