About Chandigarh Police ASI

Chandigarh Police recruits Assistant Sub Inspectors (Executive) directly from among graduates. It is a Group C post at pay level 5 (Rs 29,200 to Rs 92,300) of the 7th CPC. The latest notice, published on 15 June 2023, advertised 44 temporary posts, backlog vacancies included.

Eligibility

Age limit

General category: 18–25 years, counted on 15 June 2023 (the date of the advertisement).

Age relaxation

  • OBC: 3 years
  • SC: 5 years
  • The upper limit is 28 for OBC and 30 for SC candidates.
  • Ex-servicemen can apply up to 45 years of age.
  • Wards of serving or retired Chandigarh Police employees get 2 years; wards of employees who died in service get 3 years.
  • Departmental candidates of Chandigarh Police can apply up to 40 years.

Other conditions

  • Height: men 170 cm, women 157 cm; residents of notified hill areas get 5 cm off. Men's chest: 81 cm with 4 cm expansion; women are exempt from the chest test.
  • Every candidate takes a dope test at the PE&MT.
  • OBC reservation counts only castes on the OBC list issued for Chandigarh.

What they ask

The 2023 Tier-I booklet opened with a run of ethics questions, most asking whether an action was ethical, moral, both or neither, such as an officer following instructions without question or a policeman letting a minor driver go. Current affairs came from 2023 news: sports events, the theme of National Safety Day and a defence contract. There were also constitution questions, like the article that mentions a uniform civil code, and coding-decoding puzzles. Tier-II is written by hand: an essay worth 30 marks and English language skills worth 20.

How to prepare

  • Prepare ethics as a topic of its own. The 2023 paper began with several questions asking you to judge police and workplace actions.
  • Practise writing essays by hand against the clock. Both tiers share one two-hour sitting, and the essay alone is worth 30 marks.
  • Secure 33% in Tier-I first: below that, your Tier-II answer script is not checked.
  • Keep dated current affairs notes for the exam year; the 2023 questions covered sports events, national observance days and defence deals from that year.
